It's not the greatest car in the world, but it's still a Ferrari. And I love all Ferraris.

It's basically a 2L turbo 308 for the european market which allows owners to get into a lower tax bracket at 2L

Hello everyone, this is my first message to this site!
I thought I start with my favorite car off all time the 208/308/328 series produced from 1975 to 1989. The 208 GTB you're talking about was a cut-price version of the 308 GTB. There was also a GTS version with removable 2-part roof just like the 308 GTS. Other than the engine the two cars were identical. It was never officially exported to most (any?) countries outside Italy. It was made available in 1980 with an 155 hp engine initially but in 1982 the 208 GTB/GTS Turbo was introduced with a more respectable 220 hp. You could tell that car apart from the 308s due to scoops in parts of the body for the turbo to breathe fresh air. Later, in 1986 a 255 hp version simply designated GTB or GTS with no "208" based on the then-current 328 GTB/GTS was introduced. This was much more like it since it had the same performance as the "normal" 3.2 lt. V8 car! Italy used to have a luxury-tax imposed on cars with more than 2000cc engine displacement. Hence some very interesting cars came out mostly with turbo engines to compensate for the luck of size. Maserati for e.g. had at one point a version of the Ghibli with a 330 hp output from a twin-turbo 2.0lt! That was more powerfull at the time even from their 3.2 lt engines! Here are some pictures of the turbo versions : |

.... the picture I posted was the GTB and GTS Turbo versions of 1986. Here is a picture of the 1982 208 GTB Turbo. You can easily tell it apart from the 308 on which it is based by the various inlets and black louvres on the bonnet... The original 208 GTB/GTS of 1980 was exactly the same as the 308 so theres no point in posting pictures of that car.

No...not done by Ferrari...done by Bertone! Yes the same designer of the 'normal' 208 and 308GT4. There are two 208GT4 Cabrio's and one is now for sale in England.
Ow...and it IS an official factory car!
