help, dad searching for new car, needs to meet these specs

Hello, new here on these forums

I need some help, desperately. My dad owns a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000 GT, a very unique japanese muscly sports car (automatic, v6). There aren't too many people who know what that is anymore, but it's been a big part of his life and he loves the dang thing. It's on its last legs, has about 166K miles, and we're buying new cars next March. He continues to invest money into it to keep it running. He can't find a car that can match what his Mitsubishi delivers. He will NOT buy a car (at this point in time) if it doesn't have a hatchback trunk with rear folding seats, same sporty body and overall look, he won't consider it. So I need suggestions, he has no price limit but I figure around $45k is where I'd draw the line.

He looked at the Scion FR-S and seems to love it, but honestly I think it won't be what he wants when it comes to performance and that beautiful engine sound we all know and love. So guys, I need your help. Is there any hope we'll find a car for him that can meet those specifications? If so any suggestions are appreciated!

Or are you guys thinking like my mom and I that he needs to get over it and be happy with a Mustang GT or something of the sort?
