Re: 1999 Expedition sometimes doesn't start

This is the EXACT problem that I have had with my 99 Ford Expedition. I am at a loss for what to do. The last post seemed to indicate a solution...however it was posted over a year ago with no further replys. Does this really work and do you have any more information. Thanks a million!

Cool Re: 1999 Expedition sometimes doesn't start

Sorry to hear that guys. My 2000 Expo has never done that but if everything else that is electronic works fine, well might just be that the steering wheel is turned too hard and let in park. I'm saying that if it doesn't start, try turning the steering wheel, might work.
But any way good luck believe me I know how frustrating it is to not find a problem after turning back and forth.

Re: 1999 Expedition sometimes doesn't start

Try this. I had the same problem Blah, Blah, Blah. To make a long story short it was the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV),

The device sits right on top of the engine behind the the black plastic 5.4 cover. I took it off and I think you can take it apart. It has been about a year and a half since I had the problem. Anyways, I cleaned it and possibly shot some WD40 on it to get it lubricated. Again, can't remember. I got the solution from this website. Their are so many posts for this problem. This was the fix for me hope it helps. Also, the windsheild leak is for real and was a huge problem for me. But, with the help from this site I got the problem fixed and my truck runs great. Fix, replace the GEM module with a junk yard one and used silicone to fix the water leak. I have a more detailed post on this site. If your having any type of electrical problem I would look into the leaking windsheild. Also, the rear wiper motor is Crap and will break with time.

Re: 1999 Expedition sometimes doesn't start

On the 1997 Ford 5.4L I had with an E40D transmission their is a digital transmission range (DTR) sensor. It goes on the side of the transmission and is held on by two bolts. It won't allow you to start if the transmission is not in park or neutral. You should have a otc or lisle alignment tool. This should be cheap and available at a parts store. If you match everything up you might get away without one.
If you have a standard transmission their is a clutch pedal position (CPP)switch for the clutch so you can't start without the clutch pushed in.
