yeah 215 should be a 7-7.5 in wheel. i had 8.5" wheels on the front of my z and the tires was 235.

Yeah But Sam, is Swedish and a ex-Volvo test driver.......
huh, Volvo. I work for volvo, the 960 volvo WILL drift nicely for such a big car. Done it before well balanced good torque power to do a good power over or even a decent braking drift but cant get the clutch on one of those to handle anything over 4k RPM they slip too much for now. And the fact it was a customers car was another downside. |

Re: uh oh.. it rained
well that's odd, because both my winter tires and ones on there now are 215 and they're 8.5" wide.. also, i went out and measured the tires that i had on my last car and they're 215 as well, they measured 8.5" too... what the heck??

Re: uh oh.. it rained
if you convert 215 mm to inches, that is 8.467". so basically a 8.5" wheel.

ok....your math is right but let me try to explain. i had a 265 mm tire on my last wheel. and the wheel was 9.5" thick. if you convert 265mm to inches, you will have a about a 10.5" wheel. it just doesnt add up.
your tire is always gonna be about an inch wider than your wheel for overlap. if you notice, all tires overlap the wheel in width just a little bit. about a half inch on each side. causing your tire to be approximately an inch wider then your wheel.

Re: uh oh.. it rained
215 is not an 8.5 inch wheel. If the wheel is 8.5 inches wide than the width of the tire willl be a little more. Everything isnt always about calculations.

Re: uh oh.. it rained
why don't we all just take a tape measure, and measure the inside of the wheel... like from one edge or the rim to the other... i'm sure that'd make life a whole bunch easier for all of us... but, since today is such a special occasion, i just have to say one thing
WELL BLOW ME DOWN!!AVAST ME HARTIES!! TIS INTL' TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY!! ALL YE SCURVEY DOGS BE SURE TO PLUNDER AND PILLAGE AND SWASH YE BUCKLES! HA HARRR MAY ALL YE AND YE WENCHES HAVE A FINE DAY! http://www.talklikeapirate.com

Re: uh oh.. it rained
took delerious's advice and I DO have 10.5" wheels. and 275mm = 10.8267717". so my tires are .3" bigger than my wheels, not quite an inch as k3 was saying.

yeah it all depends. in your case freak...they might have taken a 10.8" tire and stretched it more than most to cover the wheels. but in most of our cases the overlap on the wheels by the tires causes the tire to be about an inch or so thicker then the wheels. i dont think that they would make a 215mm tire stretch over a 8.5" wheel. it wouldnt look like you would have a tire on there because it would be tucked under the wheel.
also, when measuring from the front to back of the wheel, that isnt the exact width of the wheel. becasue when they measure how thick a wheel is they measure where the tire fits on the wheel not what you see. same way with heigth. freak, go out ane measure the heigth of the wheel. it will probably read closer to 18 inches from top to bottom of your wheel.
