Cutting out
Hi
Got this real annoying problem, car cuts out totally at random Most of my journeys are less than 20 miles. Can happen at start or end of journey, or both on bad day. Wet or dry seems to make no difference. Almost always restarts if i turn key of then restart with key, only once have i managed to do a rolling start (bump start) and that was by dropping a gear and really pushing the engine. Occasional cut out for split second then carries on. Its not what i would call a missfire, more like engine stops for split second. Accelerating or cruising same problem Furthest i have driven (over several journey) is 120 miles before it happened, shortest journey was 2 miles since the last one. Parts replaced All coilpacks and leads (old ones split and cracked) Crank sensor, MAF, Fuel injection and ignition relays near battery Battery seems ok Has been on diagnostics but they say no faults logged Really am running out of ideas, anybody got any idea what to check next Also when the engine dies the tacho stays at engine speed ie does not drop straight to zero. Thanks 1999 Alfa 156 1.8TS no mods |

Re: Cutting out
Have you solved the problem? If not you didn't say at what point during driving your problem occured. Mine was cutting out as I dropped into second to turn corners etc. Problem started after battery had been disconnected for some unrelated work. Reset the ECU and problem disappeared.

Re: Cutting out
Problem was finally sorted, no problems shown on diagnostics but dealer had it cut out on them on test drive.
They then had a quess that it would either be the throttlebody or the ecu, they replaced the throttlebody first and upto now 800 miles later the problem has not returned. |

Re: Cutting out
Although I hope problem doesn't return mine did, after almost £700 replacing afm, spark plugs etc. Local garage used injector cleaner, free of charge, problem is gone. Advice they also gave was to not let the tank go below 1/4 full as all the crap get raised when you refill if the petrol pump is fast flow, which clogs up the intake pipes. At £4.99 from halfords it's equivalent to descaling your kettle.
