Aoshima 2009 & 2011 Subaru GR WRX STi
Hey all. I couldn't find my old thread I started when I first got the 2009 version, so since I just got this in the mail, I'll make this a double build thread.
The 2011 version came in the mail today I preordered this one thinking it was the sedan version, but the picture was deceiving and it ended up being the same 5-door hatchback so I just got it in the end. One will be OOB and the other will be slightly modded. First of all, comparison. Absolutely the same except for the wheels, and bumpers. The 2009 version will have the Volks Racing RE30s while the 2011 will be stock. The 2009 version The 2011 version Both bodies are well molded. There are slightly misalignment but that's common on most Aoshima molds. Other than that, the fit are tight and requires less fixing. Once I get my Tamiya primer come in I'll keep this updated.

Re: Aoshima 2009 & 2011 Subaru GR WRX STi
I've been spending the last months making the 2009 STI into my 2011 WRX. Then they release the new front fascia and well, I am sad. lol
But not too sad. I hope I get my 2010's in the mail today so I can compare and decide if I am swapping the new fascia to the current build. Yup, the models are nothing spectacular but since they are the only thing out there I think they are great. Post up what ya do to them. Cause of you I think I will throw a build thread up here for the first time in like 5 years, lol. |

Go for it! I think it's going to take me awhile because the guy I bought the Tamiya primer from is being a total tool. It doesn't take 45 days to be shipped from Hong Kong. I ordered them back in May and still haven't received them. I think I'm going to ask for a refund by next week and look for another seller.

I also have one of the 2009 version sitting in my to do pile, I will definitely keep an eye on your to see how it turns out.
Really good idea to build 'em both! What color do you plan for the bodies?

Still thinking on the color, but for sure one of them will be blue. Need to go back to my paint pile and see which one haven't been opened yet.

Re: Aoshima 2009 & 2011 Subaru GR WRX STi
Got it painted! Light gun metal is the color with gunmetal RE30s, looks very stealthy. Oh and my Tamiya primer finally came in today. Thank goodness because I used Testor's primer and they DO NOT react well with Tamiya sprays. The paint started lifting off the body and I had to strip off the paint, and redo the primer properly with the Tamiya. After I did that, there seem to be some conspicuous parts that I missed sanding and the paint got a bit messy around there, but I managed to fix those problems.
This is the 2009 version.

Re: Aoshima 2009 & 2011 Subaru GR WRX STi
Some quick update. Almost done with the grille, just need to touch up on the paint and Subaru blue oval emblem and STi badge. The front bumper is ready to go and the Volks RE30s are done except the Volks badge. It was a bit hard to paint the blue lugs on these wheels. I need a smaller point brush.

Lookin good!
I finally got mine in the other week. Scrapped my conversion build for the 2009 --> 2011 front end after getting the new one in. Not a bad job Aoshima. |

Test fitting it. The rear wheel sits higher than the front so I'm trying to fix that.
Oh, don't mind the white tape, I'm prepping it to paint the window trims.
