1,000-hp 2016 CTS-V: Hennessey builds a Caddy rocket

Hot-rod Cadillac sedan limited to just 24 examples

Hennessey Performance Engineering must have liked what it saw in the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V, revealed at the 2015 Detroit auto show. It calls the stock output of 640 hp from a 6.2-liter V8 “a good start,” after which the Texas tuning company will be happy to upgrade yours to 750, 800 or 1,000 hp.

Even though the 2016 CTS-V isn’t out yet, founder John Hennessey is bullish on the new four-door.

“A couple of years ago, the State of Texas gave us the opportunity to test one of our specially tuned CTS-Vs -- our VR1200 Twin Turbo coupe. It ran 221 mph (356 km/h) on State Highway 130, near the Circuit of the Americas,” said Hennessey. “It was still pulling on when we ran out of road. I believe that our 2016 Twin Turbo CTS-V will have a top speed approaching 240 mph (386 km/h).”
Hennessey plans offer a run of just 24 examples of the HPE1000 for the 2016 model year.

The HPE1000 gets power from twin turbochargers, which are installed in place of the factory supercharger. The engine gets upgrades to handle the boost, including forged pistons, rods and crankshaft, a custom cam, ported cylinder heads, fuel system upgrades, an electronic boost controller, an air-to-air intercooler, a stainless steel exhaust and HPE engine calibration. A handful of badges are thrown around inside and out while floor mats and headrests will also feature the Hennessey name. The HPE1000 comes with a one-year/12,000-mile warranty.

The HPE750 and HPE800 get fewer upgrades and no turbochargers -- those two models stick with the supercharger. They do get pulley upgrades, high-flow cylinder heads, an intercooler upgrade, a custom camshaft and HPE engine tuning. The less-powerful HPEs have a warranty of three-years/36,000 miles.

“I’ve owned and driven several Cadillac CTS-Vs over the past five years,” said Hennessey. “I love the practicality and the ease of driving these cars every day. They are also a great platform from which we can create our own special four-door supercar.”
The monster HPE1000 will cost $159,000; pricing for the rest will come out later this year. Four of the 24 HPE1000s have already been sold, so go to hennesseyperformance.com to reserve yours.
