1. ALFA ROMEO 4C

The coupe goes on sale in August, priced at around $80,000. The Spider, pictured, arrives in mid 2015 and you won’t get any change from six figures. Both use the same 1.75-litre turbo four from the Giulietta hatch, but with rear wheel drive and a super-light carbon-fibre body.

2. AUDI TT

The third generation of Audi’s beautiful little coupe arrives in the third quarter, featuring light-weight aluminium/steel composite construction, Quattro all-wheel drive and a suite of VW engines, including a 228kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol in the TTS.

3. BMW M3 AND M4

The new M range sees the sedan as the M3 and the coupe/ convertible as M4. Under the skin, they’re the same, with the latest version of BMW’s Twin Power turbo 3.0-litre straight six, tuned for 317kW and 431Nm. No pricing details as we went to press, but expect circa $150,000 start money. The four-door 4 Series Gran Coupe has just arrived, priced from $70,000 for the 420i.

3. BMW M3 AND M4

5. HYUNDAI GENESIS

Hyundai takes on the Germans with this big luxury sedan, due in July. A 232kW 3.8-litre V6, eight-speed automatic, rear wheel drive and, of course, sharp pricing, reportedly from around $50,000.

6. JAGUAR F-TYPE

The coupe version of the roadster, tested in this issue, arrives shortly with prices starting at $119,900. Top-spec R screamer gets a 404kW 5.0-litre V8, at $219,600.

7. LAMBORGHINI HURACAN

The successor to Lambo’s most successful model ever, the Gallardo, the Huracan is on sale as we go to press, at $428,000. Uses Audi R8/Gallardo 5.2-litre V10, now with 448kW.

8. LEXUS RC

Lexus has a crack at the performance luxury coupe with the RC, available with 235kW 3.5-litre V6 and, in the F, “well above 330kW” 5.0-litre V8 engines.

9. MASERATI GHIBLI

Maserati is chasing high end BMW and Mercedes buyers with the Ghibli, which uses the same architecture and drivetrains as the big Quattro porte, tested in this issue, but a shorter wheelbase. Priced from around $200,000.

10. MCLAREN 650S

Can’t afford a P1? Now on sale, McLaren’s gorgeous 650S is available as a coupe, from $441,500, and Spider, from $486,250. McLaren’s M838T 3.8-litre twin turbo, with 485kW, does the honours. 0-100km/h is a claimed 3.0 seconds.

11. MERCEDES-BENZ C CLASS

The new C Class, due in August, should continue to dominate BMW’s 3 Series and Audi’s A4, as the current model has done.

12. MERCEDES S CLASS COUPE

The successor to the CL, the shapely S Class coupe features drivetrains from the sedan range, tested in this issue. S63 AMG reaches 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to its 430kW 5.5-litre twin turbo V8.

13. VW POLO

Polo update gets a Golf VII style makeover and a range of new, more fuel-efficient engines, including a 1.4-litre three-cylinder turbo diesel which, in maximum efficiency Blue Motion tune, is claimed to return just 3.2L/100km.
