02 Eclipse 3.0 distributor question
My son has a 2002 Eclipse 3.0 that did not run when he bought it. It was not firing, so he bought a used distributor and installed it. The car would run, but was missing and not running well at all. He stopped driving it for a while, due to this problem. He checked the distributors and they have different numbers on the side. Could that be the problem? He is getting intermittent firing with the one he bought, and no fire with the original. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

Re: 02 Eclipse 3.0 distributor question
Do a compression test on the cylinders, first. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes. I would have checked the basics before worrying about the distributor.

Re: 02 Eclipse 3.0 distributor question
i have put new wires, plugs, rotor, crank sensor and it still was showing the codes P0335 and P0340 which are the crank and cam sensor code. it was running great when i replaced the original distributor with a used one. this car is driving me crazy. all cylinders have 120 psi of compression. is this low? thanks for help

Re: 02 Eclipse 3.0 distributor question
That compression sounds good to me. The most likly cause of those codes is the sensor wiring circuits, open or shorted or loose connector. A faulty sensor or problem with pcm. I can't tell you if pcm is faulty?
Also check timing marks. Last edited by jdl; 10-05-2012 at 01:45 PM. Reason: more info |

Re: 02 Eclipse 3.0 distributor question
when i changed the distributor before it ran great. but i installed a used distributor. thats why there was the question about the numbers on the side of the distributor. i have checked timing marks and everything shows to be on the money. just wish i could find out what it is without spending alot of $$$$. with the distributor that i just to off it would fire enough to start up if you messed with it enough and it would run but once you killed it and let it cool off it wont start back. then we started getting fire every so often.

Did you check the wires..? Sounds like the firing order is wrong.
