Smile Mitsubishi 4G93T Timing belt noise/knock from idle to 2000rpm then dissapears...

my 4g93t (1800cc dohc turbo) had timing belt changed about 5000km ago, along with a tensioner, cars been going well and has suddenly started making a kocking sound (regardless of temp frm engine) from idle to 2000rpm then it dissapears, drove it home (1km) and there was no loss of power what so ever no missing, it didnt get hot or anything?? basicly wasnt showing signs of motor giving up... noise seems to be coming from timing belt im sure, help please????

Does the knocking noise seem to directly correlate to engine speed up to 2000 rpms? When is the last time the oil was changed? Have you checked the oil level and condition? Was the water pump replaced when the timing belt was changed? What model of vehicle is this engine out of? Does this engine use idler pulleys and self tensioners? You may have a bearing in one of those that's failing. It can be very tricky to identify the source of a ticking/knocking noise just by opening the hood and listening without a listening aid, so I wouldn't necessarily suggest being biased that it's coming from the timing belt area.
