My car is in park and drive at the same time, so it will not start, what needs repaired?

When I go to start my car it has a solid red light around park, as it should, but it has a flashing green light around drive also. When this happens my car will not start. I usually try it a few times, wait and try and try again until it finally starts up. Once it starts the drives light is still blinking so I turn the car off and back on, then it is good to go. This does not happen every time, it seem sporadic. The engine, battery and oil light stay on, but I think it may only be because the car is starting up, usually the lights come on when starting then go off once the car is ready. Btw I drive a 1993 Honda Accord.

Seems to be a common issue. Flashing indicates an issue with the transmission controller. There should be a way to pull codes.

Could be something as simple as the neutral safety switch (sometimes called a manual lever position switch or Range selector switch).

Hit up a shop with free diagnosis. You can go to AutoZone too, but they usually have the cheap simple scanners that only read OBD2 codes. A shop will have a good code reader that reads Honda transmission codes and they can usually pinpoint the problem.

There is a switch on the transmission that causes this problem. That or some plastic connecter.
