Unhappy !!!!!HELP ME !! No more VTEC at 5 RPM

If anyone can provide any relative suggestions for this problem please suggest away: First of all, I have a 99 GSR Frankenstein. LS block w/ GSR head. It has been bored about 50,000 ago but rebuilt only 100 miles ago. It is built just a hair loose providing quicker RPM's. Anyway, it just started bogging down at 5 about a week ago and I don't have a clue why. I did have a tiny oil leak problem but that is not the case b/c I have plenty of oil and have since fixed the prob. In 1 or 2 gear I can tack it up to 4 easy, slam the gas and exactly at 5 it acts like it isn't getting enough gas or something. It just simply goes bla. BUt if I let it come down to 4 again, it pulls right back up to 5 and does the same thing again.

HELP
Thanks

even on the small lobes it would still accelerate wouldnt it. does it not go past 5k at all, or just loses power around there and slowly accelerates after the tach hits 5k. is the check engine light on? cuz I have a bad CAS or no signal to ECU from it(havent fixed it yet so I dont know) and at 3400 it wont rev no more, so if you step on it it just goes back and forth betwen like 3100-3400.

Nope, the check engine light is not on, and you are right even on the small lobes it should still accelerate, but it doesn't. I am wondering if there is something messed up with the lobe of one of the cams, b/c at 5 it just goes straight down.

Venger10 is right. It is the distributor. Not actually the distributor but the coil located inside. If you know how to change it, do it. If not, just swap out the whole thing. I know from first hand experience. I was stupid because at first I never checked anything. I automatically thought it was the fuel pump. So I replaced it and it never solved the problem. That's when I went to the distributor and it's never done it since then.

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I thought the same thing b/c it didn't seem like it was getting gas and I thought the pump might be going bad, but I'll check the coil first.

modify it to use an external coil like an MSD blaster. then you wont ever have this problem again, and if by some strange stroke of luck you do fry the blaster, you can simply undo three wires, send it back to MSD, and put a new one on.

Check your oil, low oil will not allow for VTEC engagement...

Also if you have a check engine light on, it could be the cause because on OBD 2 Computer systems the check engine light will disable some things on the car causing a "limp mode" where the computer thinks minimal damage will be done to the car by driving it...
