2011 Avalon blinking light
I've noticed whenever I put into Reverse, the lighted box around the R blinks. dealer can't figure out why this is happening. Any one heard of it before?

Re: 2011 Avalon blinking light
This is likely an electrical issue between the computer, reverse switch, and the rear lights. are there any other dash lights on?

Thank you for the reply to the lighted square around the R. The asnswer to your question is that no other lights are on. The backup lights and the break lights all work as do the turn signals. TX for the reply |

Re: 2011 Avalon blinking light
Given your info I would lean toward a wiring issue as the suspect lights are all working... and there are no codes. Check pinch points in the wiring that may cause a possible short. For this evaluation you want to work backwards in the wiring from the reverse lights looking for possible grounded wires allowing the lights to work but still triggering the faulty R light.

Look at the wiring loom in the trunk near the hinges. This is a notorious trouble spot.

Joe W & Brian R.:
Thanks to both of you for the answers and the help on this vexing problem. I will check the trunk and inform the "experts" at the local dealership about the possible problem spots. TX to both Olypian2012 |

Re: 2011 Avalon blinking light
Thanks Brian, I was uncertain if this issue extended to the 11's

Re: 2011 Avalon blinking light
I'm not sure either, but it is an obvious weak point in Toyotas, historically - and similar symptoms have been found for this problem.

Re: 2011 Avalon blinking light
Toyota provided lights for "cold engine" and "hot engine." When in reverse a box blink around the "R" of the gear indicator.
