Just for cost reasons.
C5R Heads aren't cheap. He actually made 2 versions of the 427TT. One went into a Vette which ran 9s. The other into the AWD S10. The S10 blew the motor though. Launched so hard, the oil sloshed to the back of the pan and he spun a few bearings...Opps! I think a favorite of mine would be this setup: '69 Camaro SS Agostino (ARE) 422 cubic inch LS6 Motor 4.100" bore/4.00" stroke Forged Pistons, Rods, Crank. Split Duration Cam (to be selected later). 2.08/1.60 Valves with Dual Springs and Titanium Retainers/Pushrods. ARE LS6 OilPump. Upgraded Headgaskets, Head Studs, Main Studs, etc. TH400 Trans. with 3.06 1st gear (upgraded) and Transbrake. Moser 9" Rear w/ 4.11s. TNT Direct Port Nitrous System (200-300 additional HP) All in a car with a raceweight of approx. 3100 lbs. Mmm.... That car would make ROUGHLY 500rwhp/500rwtq on MOTOR. With the split duration cam and Direct Port, it would make over 800rwhp/800rwtq off a 300 shot.

i'd buy an effed up mig that had working engines and stuff...
hack off the wings... lower it... add a couple more wheels up front for stability no...lol...i'd do what i'm going to do anyhow. Sell my Eclipse non turbo... Buy a first gen eclipse turbo. This transaction should cost me no money. Then i'd have 20grand to mod the crap out of it.... of course i wouldn't do that..maybe spend like 1500bux on it to make it a little quicker...use the rest to put down on a house, or finish school. |

People who race on race tracks use ls1's or have them as their car?
Wouldn't a rx-7 be better for track use because of the light weight, making it fairly nimble compared to a ls1? |

Actually, the LS1 only weighs about 50 lbs more than a 13B, and makes up for it with torque
I think the best comprimise is a lightweight import sports car, could be a japanese, german, english, italian etc, and put a decently built domestic V8 in it. Case in point, RX7, with Ford 400M smallblock. Weight, 2500lbs. With a $1500 engine build, 375 hp, 475 lbft or so. With a $2500 Build, 425hp, 500lbft. With a $8000 engine build, 900hp, 800lbft, 2400lbs. The $8000 build is a 466 stroker, with cleveland 4V heads, a custom steel crank, custom rods, 8:1 compression, 20lbs of boost from 2 big turbos, propane conversion, and of course, my future EFI and ignition systems. The $2500 is for Cleveland 2V heads, edelbrock intake and 750 carb, 10:1 compression, 268 cam, headers and free flowing exhaust(back pressure doesn't matter much with 500blft ) Say a $1000 to buy an RX7, and the other $11K to drop in suspension, brakes, tranny, diff, whatever grabs your fancy. With a drag suspension setup, it wouldn't sweat 7s. Expect 9s with track suspension, due to excessive wheelspin. Do not mention 60' times.

I don't quite see how a 2 liter Japanese car can compare to a 7.8 liter turbocharged V8 running on 130 octane fuel.

See previous recipe for RX7... With the car, a complete coilover suspension setup, brakes from an FD, even a widebody kit and bigger wheels for more tire(not for looks), it'll still run you a max of $8K and give you 11s, and run a slalom at 70 mph...

I want to get an old 280zx and remove the aneimic 2.8 liter engine. The 280 would cost me maybe 500 dollars (good condition just a not so good condition engine). For 12 grand I'd bring over the 26dett and drop it in (it almost fits perfectly). Reason I say 12 grand is cause it would already be tweaked before I got it. I'd take four grand and get some stickier tires, and take the last 3.5 grand and put it under my life insurance...

A lot more expensive than my project, but you get a 280 with an inline 6, and that has tradition
My RX7 project has two goals, ultimate performance, and low cost... the whole idea is to build a budget supercar without comprimising speed for handling, or vice versa.

Re: FASTEST CAR under 20k???
In my personal opinion a 1994-6 BMW 850 csi is best, i hav been researching this exact question for years, this car costs around 10k$, has a 6l V12, standard has around 400 BHP. With a turbo ive seen pumped up to around 600 BHP, with a lowered ride height and better gear ratios it can do the quarter in under 12. Its is a big GT car so if stripped out (lose of weight) it would be immense. Anyways the standard figures are 0-62 in under 5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph
Give it a thought it is an insane car, u wudnt think u wud get a 6l muscle car for under 10K |

Living Dead Thread!!!
DIE THREAD DIE!!! It's common practice not to bring up threads that have been inactive for over 3 months. Let alone 6 years. If you want to continue the topic, feel free to start another. This topic died for a reason back in the day. Not to mention that your facts are a bit off, the only 8-series you can buy for less than $20,000 is an 8 cylinder 840ci. The 12 cylinder 850CSi is very rare. Roughly only 225 were brought to the United States, thus they still bring in about $40-50k.
