wrap motorcycle's exhaust

Hello Everybody!

I have been reading this forum for a long time. And I'm sure that one of the best motorbikes modellers are here.

Please, could you tell/show your methods to wrap motorcycle's exhaust?

I want to build kind of cafe racer and I think of wraping pipes by sticking plaster. How do you do it?

thank you in advance.

Re: wrap motorcycle's exhaust

Sticky goo from the plaster can ruin the look of the exhaust.
I think you can experiment with thin silk stripes and PVA glue.

Re: wrap motorcycle's exhaust

For my Trueno's steering wheel I cut some Tamiya masking tape to a width that looked to scale and wrapped it around with tweezers.

Finished by painting with Model Master aircraft interior black.

I thought about it too. Thanks for photos. Now I can see how it will look like.

But I think that a texture isn't right. It's too smooth.

On other forum I was adviced to use foil from cigarette pack or do a texture by myself on alluminium duck tape.

If you can get ahold of some medical tape, it should have the texture in scale for what you want.

Along those same lines i've seen a member use the flexible fabric band-aids cut into small strips. Looked pretty convincing.

Re: wrap motorcycle's exhaust

A while back someone posted a wip on scratch built Confederate B91 Wraith that featured the best wrapped exhaust I've ever seen. It doesn't look like it's on the forum anymore, but you might find it elsewhere.

Re: wrap motorcycle's exhaust

I once wrapped an exhaust with BareMetalFoil, cut to the right width,
applied to exhaust, then textured it by pressing gently with a small flat file..
You can also buy .5mm wide masking tape from "jammydog.com" for this..
