Had my mitsubishi turbo putting out 20 lbs. of boost!
I had an 89 chrysler lebaron 2 door convertible-2.5L turbo, and now I have a 90 daytona 2.5L turbo and I had both turbos putting out 20 lbs. of boost without over boosting or extreme modifications.
When I had it putting out 20 lbs. my buddy with a 5.0L mustang gt told me he would be hard pressed to beat me. I took him for a ride and pinned him to his seat. I messed up vacuum lines and had the wastegate blowing wide open while the computer thought there was no boost. These turbos can put out 25 lbs. max. I'm gonna try and recreate what I did before, I'll keep everyone posted. I also have an intercooler out of a pt cruiser I'm going to drop in soon. Does any one know where I can get cheap intercooler piping? |

Re: Had my mitsubishi turbo putting out 20 lbs. of boost!
I think the vacuum lines to the wastegate solenoid were blocked off , and the lines off the waste gate were rigged into the brake booster lines. so the computer thought the turbo wasn't putting out any boost and the vacuum was just blowing the waste gate wide open. I reached twenty at the max, these turbos are rated for 7 tops, but can put out upto 25 psi.
The bottom and top end were rebuilt so it handled it well, but I had a slow oil leak and before I knew it I was cruising on the highway at 3000 rpm with no oil pressure. Threw rod bearings, blew a gasket and more, but it's running ok now after much hard work. I just have to recreate the vacuum line mistake. |

You'll want to be careful or your motor will end up looking like this.

Well, you've got two problems here:
1. The stock fuel system can't keep up with 20 PSI. 2. Running that much boost on a little TE04H, especially without an intercooler is just asking for problems. Both of these are going to cause detonation. These engines are stout and can handle well over 20 PSI but, just like any other engine, they can't handle detonation especially at WOT. |
