Exclamation no start no turnover at all

I just bought a 97 boxster that had a bad intermediate shaft bearing. when i bought it from the previous owner he had already pulled the engine but decided he didnt want to mess with it any further. i replaced the bearing and put the car back together and when i went to turn it on it wont start. it wont turn over or anything at all. the dash comes on and it does a three second countdown for oil i think. everything electrical seems to be in order as far as lights dash a/c etc. the only thing that seems odd is that im not hearing any relays clicking. my first thought is that i missed hooking up a relay but im pretty sure everything is connected so i dont think thats it. is there something that gets triggered when i took the motor out that i need to reset, or is this likely to be completly different problem that i didnt know about before buying. any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
