Taking out the radio?
Hello! I reciently purchased a 2000 Nubira, and was wondering if someone could help me with something. The radio does not have a cd player, so I kept the one out of my old car to put in the Nubira...I don't know how to do it though. With my Escort, all I needed was some pins to get it out, and some cheap wires (I think $5 at Walmart). The problem with this is that I dont even know where to start to take this one out! I have the security code, just dont know what extras I will need, or how to take it out
Thanks!!! |

Re: Taking out the radio?
Having bought my Nubira with the radio already swapped out for an el-cheapo aftermarket model I can't say for sure - however, I would think that the proceedure would be simular. If anyone has any information otherwise please correct me. Before starting the proceedure below, be sure to obtain the wiring color codes for the wires going to the radio, so you know what color wire is for what (eg. : speakers, power, etc)
[1] - disconnect battery [2] - Remove the plastic facia covering the radio, climate control etc. be careful when doing this as it is a bit thin in places and can crack easily. Use a small slotted screwdriver to gently but firmly pry evenly around the facia until the 4 clips release. remove and set aside facia. [3] - locate and remove the mounting screws holding the radio in place [4] - carefully extract radio head unit from inside dashboard [5] - disconnect antanae and wiring harness from the radio and set oem radio aside. [6] - pull gently oin the wiring harness going to the radio until you have some working space to continue. [7] - measure out about 2-3 inches away from the plug of the wiring harness for the radio and carefully, using wire cutters, snip the harness freeing the plug that goes into the back of the radio. Plug the plug you just removed back into the radio (in case you ever sell the car, you can reconnect upo the old oem radio and keep your better cd player for your next wheels). [8] - follow manufacturer's guidelines for hooking up your new radio, ensuring the wires for the new radio are connected to the proper corresponding wires in the harness. Use crimpable wire nuts if possible instead of electric tape to ensure proper seal and insulation. [9] - reconnect antanae, gently place radio inside dash, reconnect battery and test new radio before completing installation. once you verify all works properly, disconnect battery and complete installation, making sure everything is back firmly in place. [10] reconnect battery and jam on Quote:
