Re: Ferrari Enzo VS Mclaren F1 LM

yeah the engine for the GTR, which is what the LM is based on, was un restristricted and was pushing out around 668bhp like jcsaleen said. However the when the longtail entered racing air resrictors were introduced to keep speeds down (tit heads..why oh why?) and so the output was 600bhp, hence probably the body rework, so less drag meant speeds were not that different!...However i think there will be a car which i think is currently for sale, massivly under rated, swedish, 806bhp, 1160kg, 0-60 3.2 and it is the Koenigsegg CCR. This thing looks amazing and is lighter, more powerful, has bigger brakes and more downforce than the origianl CC-8S which could beat the Enzo so the enzo has no chance againsnt this Volvo (hahaha...volvo) tweaked hyper car!

Re: Ferrari Enzo VS Mclaren F1 LM

I love the Enzo, but I love the McLaren even more!
Sorry Enzo!
And the LM is definately faster than 3.9 sec. 0-60!
This is the first article I've seen that claim otherwise! I trust the hundreds of other sources saying it is THAT fast!

The 3.9s 0 to 60 for the LM was during the record 0-100-0 test of the LM. Theoretically it should do it in less than 3 seconds.

Keep in mind that the LM is lighter than the standard road car, with more horsepower. That means you have more power to break the tires loose, and less weight to provide grip.

The article which covers this 0-100-0 test mentions more than one run being made, with a few of the launches resulting in significant wheelspin, which is why the 0 to 60 time was 3.9s. It's probably NOT an easy car to do a 0 to 60 launch in, and since it's based off a '95 GTR, 0 to 60 times are kinda meaningless. Cornering ability at speed and midrange acceleration are more important than acceleration from a stop when you're talking about a GT racer.

Nice post! I never thought about the grip. I wonder if theycould run a mclaren 0-60 test on a dyno??

doesn't the F1 have some kinda 'fan' system that sucks it to the road?

The recorded 0-60 time for the McLaren that seems to be adopted by most sites or mags or whatever, is about 3.1 seconds. There's no way an Enzo could touch that. That makes the McLaren ideal in this situation for a straightaway course. As amanichen revealed, the McLaren can handle better on corners, making it better in even a slalom.

Another point is obviously the weight-ratio. The McLaren is by far one of the lightest cars I've seen with such power in the car. This give the 600 bhp (the low) much more of an advantage on the <1000 kg, than the supposed 660 bhp for the 1350 kg Enzo.

Don't get me wrong, they are both beautiful cars, with nice power behind them, but the LM would be the sure winner.

Road versions do, but the LM and the race versions do not.

Why wouldn't they have it on the race versions? Wouldn't it help with performance?

That's just the thing, it does help with downforce without adding too much drag. A couple decades ago, during the CanAm racing series, Gordon Murray designed a car that had fan-assisted downforce. The car ended up being almost too good for the racing series and it was banned. I'd imagine that modern racing series would also have outlawed such a thing on the F1 GTRs.
