2001 ZX3 serp belt tensioner

Replaced the original tensioner at 211,000 miles as a preventive maintenance measure with a Dayco tensioner. Now it has 276,000 miles and I have replaced it 5 times since. They all have snapped in the same place. Replaced the belt each time. All of the pulleys are aligned properly and no binding or wobble in any of the pulleys. Any ideas? Different manufacturer? Thank God for the warranty, but I'm tired of replacing it every few months.

I'd use a OEM tensioner this time! There are dealers online that sell at wholesale prices.

Is the arm that the pulley attaches to made out of aluminum or steel on the OEM?

I know... I was just trying to be proactive and avoid a problem, now I have 5 problems! Maybe I'll check with the dealer if this one takes a crap.

Re: 2001 ZX3 serp belt tensioner

I just had mine replaced at 293K last week. I wonder how long it would last. One thing that I almost missed in the instruction on how to align the notch to the marker. You have to turn the tensioner (the one with hex hole) counterclockwise to align them. Again, I just had it replaced so let's see if I would encounter the same problem down the road.
