Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Looking for ideas. My blower motor Only runs on high setting. AC and auto lights don't work on any other speed. Bought 2 used switches. They act same way. Put in new blower resistor and blower motor. Same result. All fuses look OK. Don't know where else to look.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

X2. I'm replacing mine this Sunday. Same symptoms, DIC goes on and off, no A/C, blower works only on setting 5. A bad ignition switch causes all kinds of electrical problems. Thank goodness for this website because I would be totally in the dark otherwise.

Thanks for help guys. I guess once you've got the dash torn apart why stop now. Any tips or sites with instructions to replace ignition switch?

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Another possible symptom when the switch contacts get real bad is the headlamps turning on and off. Really annoying and dangerous at night time.

Here is the replacement procedure for the ignition switch which is located at our Tips & Maintenance subforum. Good luck.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

I thought I read somewhere that decreasing the amount of current draw when turning on and turning off your ignition will descrease the chances of arching contacts and burning them out. I always make sure to turn down my radio, shut off my heated seat, turn headlights off, and turn off the blower motor before I shut my car off. I've never had any problems with my ignition switch harness. (but I suppose I'm about due).

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Tim, I've heard the same thing but cannot remember where. I also turn everything off before I shut down my car. As well as making sure everything is off before starting.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Ok guys, I'm making progress replacing my 01 GP ignition switch but I'm stuck trying to get key clinder out. Got covers off , found the hole in cylinder housing, inserted Allen wrench but can't get cylinder out. Without getting cylinder out can't remove pass key module to get at bolts holding on ignition switch. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to keep key in start position before putting Allen wrench in hole. Am I supposed to turn certain way to remove cylinder? Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

I think the key might have to be in and in the on position, I could be wrong though.

Check the tips and maintenance subforum. I think there is a writeup there on how to do it.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

I think if you look at the tips and maintenance link from Bnaylor you will see you need to have the key in the cylinder to remove it

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

You're guys are correct, there is a post on the sub forum. I tried to follow it thus far but must be doing something wrong. Inserted key, turned and held in start position, inserted allen wrench into the housing hole, but can't get the lock cylinder to come out. Tried to take the key out of ignition to start over but can't get it out of lock cylinder now. Tried different variations for about an hour last night with no luck. So close but so far. The shame is that if it weren't for the security pass II module being in the way, I think I could change out the ignition switch. Can't move security module without taking lock cylinder out. "Oh what a tangled mess we weave when first we practice to ....... be a mechanic without any actual skill or knowledge". I may be in over my head but still trying. Luckily I have another vehicle to drive. Still looking for suggestions if anyone has them. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Just wanted to let y'all know I got the key cylinder out. Got to be smart enough to stick the Allen wrench in the proper hole. Reading tips & maint thread it talked about using mirror to find a hole at the back of the cylinder housing. I thought that meant the hole was on back side (facing toward the dash). And there is a hole there on my 2001. However, there's also a hole on the top side of the housing (much easier to get to). This is the proper hole. Cylinder came out easily. Hopefully smooth sailing from here. Thanks for all the help

Re: Need Help With 2001 GP blower motor issue

Interesting journey indeed! I finally got mine replaced. Everything went smooth except for the fact that I had a remote starter installed and didn't think about the two being connected until I was elbow deep. So I had to switch out the wiring from my remote starter from my old Ignition switch and into my new one...Also, I'm having an issue bolting up my bottom half of my steering wheel column "plastic piece". I have it in but it's not lined up properly, it's being extremely ornery...
