Revell Porsche GT1 warped

Got one of these in the mail a while back, opened it up, and found that the body is warped... the top is proper, but the sides are bowed out way to far. When you put the chassis on (test fit) there is over a quarter inch gap on either side between the chassis and where it should be flush with the body. Anybody else experience this? If I do the part replacement service, am I just going to get another warped body ($5 later)?

This seems to be a common problem with this kit, I read a review of the kit somewhere on the net and the body was warped there too.

You're lucky that the kit is 'only' a Revell GT1 though, my Tamiya Peugeot 405 Paris-Dakar '90 kit has warped body, and it's about 1/2 inch off...

Have you all tried the old "hot water" trick to straighten those bodies?

#1 - Bring a pan of water to a boil and remove from heat.

#2 - Immerse the warped body or part in the water for about a minute or so.

#3 - Remove body and apply light pressure in the opposite direction of the warpage and hold until cool.

Warping is due to the manufacturer removing the parts from their molds too soon. Since plastic has somewhat of a memory it will usually go back to the original state on it's own using this method.

I should add, make sure your part doesn't touch the hot sides and bottom of the pan . . .
