Thumbs up C70

This is a killer ride. I remember my one and only race with one. It was a race for the ages.

I had just left my friend's place in Ridgefield, CT one night, and right after I pulled out onto Route 116 North, some guy got on my ass, apparently in a real hurry. He stayed on my tail for a few seconds, and then crossed the double yellow line on this two-lane, 35-mph road and flew past me. I was eager for a little action myself, so I hit it and did my darndest to stay with him. He soon turned off onto Saw Mill Road, and I kept on his flanks as he sped down past Ridgefield High.

Due to his turbocharged assistance in terms of torque, he would continually get ahead of me every time we had to slow down and then re-accelerate. But I kept catching up to him once I got into my powerband more. There was one point at a stop sign where I tried to get past him, and began to pull up on him in the left lane, but once his turbo spooled up, he pushed ahead of me again. I figure that since at the time mine was a bone stock Integra GS-R, I held my own.

After four or five miles, that shiny, black C70 turned off onto a side street and went on his way, while I continued on to Route 84, giving a few complimentary blips of my horn as I drove past his street of escape. I remember that was the night I discovered that I could go 70 in second gear, staying just out of redline rpms (8,100), as I looked down after he turned off, and saw that I had forgotten to upshift!

That was one of my most memorable races, I guess because I was younger and more impressionable. Your first flirts with extreme speed, especially on back roads intended for use at perhaps 50% of that speed tops (most of Saw Mill Road in fact has a 25 mph speed limit) make for the greatest of memories. In revisiting that stretch of road, I shudder to think how we both managed to stay on that narrow piece of asphalt at such insane speeds, and confidently away from the plethera of trees, mailboxes, and Colonial age stonewalls adorning both sides of the road. The beauty is that extreme circumstances make the rush that much more intense.

Where does Kris94G20 reside? Utah? Volvo has always been a major contender in the industry. The handful of 'minor' players scattered around the world never really deliver an impact, but this swedish corporation does. Initially, they wanted the public to accept their demeanor of safety. More recently, they would prefer us to recognize their sportsy characteristics. The C70 coupe/cabrio solidifies their strivings, considering the fact that a 2-door safety-car is generally an oxymoron.

Has anyone heard of a C70 Cross Country? This ought to work, but may be too expensive to achieve.

While praising Volvo, I might as well mention that they make superb garbage trucks. I am grateful for that hydraulic side-can lifter.

Imagine the boxiest car you've ever seen, then make the edges sharper. That's a Volvo. At least until recent years. Now they've rounded the edges some. The taillights accentuate the sort-of double-hump that run down the side of some of the models now.

The Luxury Sedan: the S80

The Sport Sedan: the S60

The Coupe and the Convertible: the C70

Note: the convertible has pop-up roll bars for the rear seat. Cool.

The Entry-Level Sedan: the S40

And... The Cross Country

I think they look rather... surgical. :flash:

Volvo is a part of the Ford Motor Company, BTW.

if you think a stock c70 is fast then you should take a ride in a modded one

my buddy has a c70 with full exhaust(3"), test pipe, intake and a chipped ecu...htis thing hauls azz!!!....oh, did I mention that it's an auto too

from right off the line he'll spool up his turbo by holding down the brake and revving it...let me tell you, when he lets it rip....I'm sure you can visuallize...

we're going dragging in april..I'll update you guys on what kind of 1/4 mile times he runs with the mods...I believe that the c70 is a mid 14second car stock...

i love the C70 its soo nice i would like a rear wheel drive

i want volvo to make a C70R AWD with traction control that is really tyte and that engine from the P concept 350 horsepower that would be tyte

i had a volvo and i didn't have any body keep up with me when i got the turbo spooled it took me longer to get into the real power band like when i raced this maxima it was so tyte

he got away from me obviously then the turbo kicked in and i started gaining and accelerating faster it was so tyte he had a weird look on his face being as his car was highly modified i mean i raced the 222hp maxima this was the model before and i beat it ........i love volvo's but their front wheel drive is unforgiving and they way too much it need to loose weight

its a quick car tho mine was black

like all black the interior was feaking black

black is the tytest colour for shitting people up cuz its a black sheep ....
i mean come on i even managed to keep up with a trans am he shoulda slowed down we were going waaay too fast
