Stupid turbo question? Do a CT 26 turbo need a gasket seal or seal?

I got a question regarding installing a turbo. I recently got myself a rebuilt CT26 turbo for my MR2 and the fact that this is my first turbo car. Are you supposed to just bolt the turbo on without a gasket seal or a seal to the engine?

I been googleing the question on the internet and vague at best. So far I heard is that you basically don't need to because the surface where the turbo suppose to mated to are both flat surface?? this true or rather is it true on most turbo cars?

I saw the other guy's thread asking a turbo question, but I didn't want to be rude in posingt a question in that guy thread

It may look flat, but it's not milled flat. You should use a crushable metal flange gasket to acccount for any slight waviness between the surfaces. They usually look like layered aluminum or soft copper stamped out of a sheet.

Yes, you have to have a turbo gasket between the manifold and the turbo, and between the turbo and the turbo elbow (or downpipe if you are running a downpipe).

There is also a gasket between the the oil/water pipe the the turbo. DOn't bend the oil returns/water pipe, whatever you do!

Good idea to replace this pipe if yours has a lot of miles on it.
