Buick GNX vs Supra TT

Now here's a good comparison. Which car would be the better one to get and mod. I know that there are some 1200 dyno queen supras but I know that they still run like 9's. But I don't know too much about GNX's. Which car would you choose.

Re: Buick GNX vs Supra TT

If you're looking to get one or the other, just get a Supra. There were less than 600 GNX's made, so it'll be tough to find one, let alone an owner willing to part with it.

The mid-level GNs don't need 1200hp to run 9s.hehe

If you still want a turbo Buick, try a basic level Regal T-Type. It'll be cheaper, and they're more plentiful.

I'd take the GN. Its a real surprise to most people. Most people at the tracks know what a Supra can do, but not all have seen those Grand Nationals tear it up.

I'd go with the Buick if it's going to be a track only car. If you need it to also get around, I'd go with the Supra

Re: Buick GNX vs Supra TT

I'd go with a Supra Twin Turbo because of it's all around performance and tuning potential, which is great for both cars. I just think you would enjoy the Supra (daily driving and livability) more than you would the Grand National. A quality drag tuned Supra can hit 9s with 800HP-900HP, but there are some dyno queens that do it with 1200HP. Still a great car, but tuning the Supra is very expensive (especially after bolt ons phase). I mean those Single Turbo Upgrades start at $8,000 and that's with a discount.

of course there are some turbo kits that make 800whp on the supra with just a turbo kit (no other mods)... they are both good drag platforms though

you people who say that driving around in a GN would not be enjoyable have not ridden in one before. IT IS A BUICK, known for being comfortable and nice and everything a 90 year old grandma would like. Not a cramped up little supra. I personally know of 17 ten second GN's that are daily drivers in the summer time.

Track only car...... Track only cars don't run the numbers that a GN does and still have AC cruis power everything and more and get good gas mileage.

I'll admit I haven't ridden in either, but I like sports car type interiors. They aren't usually cramped to me and I'm 6'2". I like feeling like the car is a small and compact even if it isn't...a GN seems like it would have the interior feel of a cutlass siera or lumina...not the interior feel of a car like the 240sx or something...those cars I can relate to since I've sat in and driven them. The 240sx did seem a tad too small, but it's meant to be a 2 seater basically and we had 4 full sized adults...

And I've got news for the whole lot of you.

I know what a 9 second car is like. Plenty of the guys in Ohio have built street cars that run in the nines. Guess how well they corner? Nada. And no, it's not because they're muscle cars with big V8's, it's because in order to hook up the power needed to run beneath 12 seconds you need not only monstrously wide tires but you need a straight line optimized suspension.

The import guys who say "You should get the Supra because it'll run 9's and it'll still tear up the corners" obviously haven't spent much time looking at those 9 second Supras. 9 second Supras are no longer autocrossing monsters (not that Supras do well in autocross anyways) they're straight line warriors.

Seriously. There are so many ricers out there who assume that domestics can't handle and imports can, period. It completely depends on the car

True. Muscleheads assume that imports can't drag race and domestics can, period.
