heater core

Plastic coupling between core and hose, is there a specialty to needed to remove from heater core?

the couplings require a tool to release the quick connect . this was changed to speed up the GM assy line. this is a problem if disturbed since it is not really designed to be removed esp... when old. [it will leak] .... when I flush out the heater core at each coolant servicing the hoses are removed at the engine not the heater core.
