My mechanic has basically retired, and I'm wanting to continue the transmission service that he recommended for my '01 Escape. I was taking it to him and he would drain 1/3 of the transmission fluid, and add some sort of additive to it when he refilled it. I would do that in three month intervals, so that after three visits, the transmission fluid would be somewhat new. He recommended that instead of a complete flush due to the mileage on car.
I'm going to do this myself, but I want to make sure the info I have is correct. As far as the fluid itself, I've seen the '01 takes Motorcraft ATF, but I've also seen mention of Dexron/ Mercon. Also the capacities I've seen are 10 total quarts of transmission fluid?
He always recommended an additive that he would put in with the trans. fluid, but I'm not sure what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good additive for high mileage transmissions?
Thanks
