Red face 1990 Cressida temp gauge, moon roof, and ABS light

Hi:

I own a 1990 Cressida with 131K miles and it runs excellent. I ran into problem with temperture gauge couple weeks ago. Since then it happens four times. The systom of problem is that the needle of temperture gauge shot to highest point, then it dropped down to normal. The car does not have over heat issue. The teperture sensor was replaced four months due to cracked plastic insert.

Please help me to find the problem.

Thanks

Pull the temperature switch wire use a piece of copper wire and ground it against the block. With the ignition on the gauge should peg if it doesn't the gauge is bad. Use an ohm meter and ohm the wire between the sending unit and the gauge it may be bad.
Compare with a new sending unit.

AF Enthusiast:

Thank you for your assistant. With the same car, I have found cracked glass in the part of moon roof (sun roof). The crack is about 4 inches long on the corner of glass. Do you have any suggestion for this?

Thanks

Go to a glass shop that sells auto windshields and check if they can get you a new piece of glass.

Re: 1990 Cressida temp gauge, moon roof, and ABS light

Just FYI for the future, when constructing your thread, please either keep it focused to one problem or summarize it all in the thread title so that others will know at a glance what help you need. I've changed the thread title to reflect the ongoing issues.

With that being said, welcome to AF!

An illuminated ABS light usually means there is a problem with one of the sensors at the wheels or there is a problem in the ABS unit itself. This requires an ABS-capable scanner to read the trouble code, but the wheel sensors and the wiring to/from them are a good start.
