FIAT 690 N2 canvas truck 1/24

Seems now is really trucking time for me.
My xmas personal own gift was the newer italeri volvo Fh4 kit.
Model I probably will never build, but we love little gifts, dont we?

SO here instead my new kid.
It is a 1/24 model of this fiat

but in the config with a single axle at the rear (fiat 690 n2b) with canvas .

Of course i will run to the phase of the weather and kill him.
Of course this is full scratchbuild too....
Feel already the ugly lovely oily smell of Diesel...

measures here:

Re: FIAT 690 N2 canvas truck 1/24

this time I dunno really what i am using as donor model.
I think is part of some american truck, but not revell peterbilt cause the engine i need is 6L and not a v8.
The usual donor I suggest for the guys that bought my 1/24 resin cab for 682/690 is the revell Krupp titan or bussig (scheduled reissue for 2019 1st quarter) cause many small details can be used cause from the similar period, being that ones german trucks from the 50s.
The german kit is btw an excellent model, one of the best ever of this genre and absolutely a must to have, however the original main frame chassis was quite different and wider in the italian 690. All modellers should check carefully my over 2000 pictures folder before start the assembly.
This time I found much more similitudes in this american unknown chassis (guess a pete or kenworth) much more simpler and straight than revell krupp. My ladder chassis is then very easy to modify. I had to add the second steering axle, so typical of those older models.
Fiat 690 is coming from the age where engine powers were so low ,and overall speed even less (top speed was 56 kmt/h...something as 30 mil/h ..LOL). As well as for my duel truck, in real life they were slow like hell, but the pete 281 was driven by devil, so he could do all when getting bad....

Many debrits from my previous build of the 682 are present, as well as probably the main part I still can use from that model is the trunk and the canvas, even if measures are different. My version is a 690n2 B, so I will cut the trailer trunk in the proper dimensions.

To do such works is very important to have decent drawings and many many pictures cause variants made were really infinite.
I just invested some money yesterday buying 2 original fiat 690 maintenance books to have a proper and definitive original documentation.
This subject allow to do nearly a fantasy model. several of those monsters are still alive somewhere in africa or middle east using every king of other chassis and engines, something in the way of cuba´s cadillac, when u never allow that old rusty metal to rest in peace forever and ever.

so the parts I have are here. It looks nearly already done, of course it is not and all is temporary in position. Mostly trailer needs the proper size.

those fitting test are quite important cause I do theme to take the final overall setup look. Mostly it has to be similar to the many different pictures I got, and being so big and so many different and extremely fragile parts (as steering) do not allow always to maintain the proper proportions.

Fenders must be scratchbuild. Again I bought some scrapped models from some fellows online. Incredible how people can damage a model with crap paint and glue. One of my fenders, nearly perfect in shape was completely dust and melted by mysterious glue and even more mysterious paint...
Of those barn find I think I can use more or less a 30%, and I mostly buy such for the wheels (people doesnt paint and glue them, nearly never...)

basic of the chassis frame is here:

Not so important here the fact the engine under the cab can be a cummins or a caterpillar, cause those trucks didnt had the reversable cabin and the maintenance was done only from the front grille , or from the seat position (incredible to think at how they build stuff today compared to those older ones...

Re: FIAT 690 N2 canvas truck 1/24

so, process on assembly and paint, the part i like most as well as weather effect.

test with H unic cab. correctly it fits properly on the 690 chassis. means i respected the drawings measures

such cab I will use on my next project on italian classic trucks, a Fiat 691T1

Re: FIAT 690 N2 canvas truck 1/24

Thank you, Sergei.
The trailer was the one coming from bussing reshaped and refitted in size and bones on the sides. The canvas too was from bussig, but 3 cm shorter to fit the size of a 690N2 type B

here my trailer

and here original longer bussing

I love those trucks well used
