In what seems appropriate for the weekend following the fourth of July celebrations, three American manufacturers will be represented on track during this weekend's US GT Championship races at Virginia International Raceway (Alton, VA) July 8-10, presented by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

The strong contingent of Dodge Vipers in the USGTC will be once again joined by Sonny and George Whelen in their striking red and white Whelen Engineering Marsh Racing Corvettes.

The Grand-Am regulars raced in the inaugural rounds of the USGTC, held at Road Atlanta earlier this year, and the pair are expected to yet again provide strong competition.

Another Corvette returning to the USGTC field is the number 9 of Tom Leonard. Competing in the GT-Unlimited class, Leonard will, no-doubt, be looking for the overall win.

Current GT-1 class points leader Jim Stout will also be one to watch. No stranger to the USGTC podium, Stout is coming off the back of an outright win at last month's New Jersey event.

The Costal Pet / Cool Shirt® driver is also the favorite in the hotly contested GT-1 class, where once again he'll have strong competition from the Vipers of Doug Nash, Bernie Katz and World Challenge regular Russ Oasis.

The biggest threat to Stout in the GT-1 class, however, could be newcomer Tony Cook.

Stepping up to the US GT Championship after driving in PBOC and NASA events, he's an unknown quantity at this stage. But his years of instructing for various racing organizations and his modified 1998 Pontiac TransAm might just be a combinational cat amongst the pigeons.

The GT-2 class is expected to be just as competitive with arch-rivals Tom Antonelli and Steve Loudin going head to head once again.

Their competitiveness on the racetrack is met only by their friendship off it, but with Loudin in the GT-2 points lead and the pair winning a race a piece in New Jersey spectators can once again expect fireworks.

Looking to spoil their fun will be the only female in the USGTC field this weekend, Kathy Stout, wife of fellow USTGTC competitor Jim.

Winners in each of the three classes are eligible for contingency prizes from Hoosier Tire and Cool Shirt®.

Sharing the headlines this weekend with the US GT Championship, presented by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, will be the Dodge Viper Cup, presented by Pennzoil Ultra.

The event will also feature NARRA's Whelen US TimeTrial Championship and US Performance Driver Education program. Like the US GT Championship, both of these categories are open all high-end, high performance production cars.

Spectators can expect to see a huge variety of marques on-track over the weekend with numerous manufactures represented throughout the entry list including BMW, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ferrari, Mazda, Nissan, Pontiac, Porsche and Toyota.

Friday, July 8, will see competitors practice for the US GT Championship, with qualifying and racing underway on both Saturday, July 9, and Sunday July 10.

All the action from the weekend will be captured using GoPro cameras by the Internal Production Group and will be broadcast later this year on GoRacingTV.com, hosted by motorsport television personality Tom Hnatiw.

The event and results can be followed on at facebook.com/NARRAonline or via twitter.com/NARRAonline
