Re: Aprilia RS Cube '04 1/12 scratchbuild

Hi,

I have 2 questions:

1. What resin are you using for casting the pieces?
2. Are you using a vacuum chamber for casting? I see that the casting is quite clean, without air bubbles.

Thanks,
Dan

Re: Aprilia RS Cube '04 1/12 scratchbuild

Hi Dan

1. What resin are you using for casting the pieces?

I use polyurethane resin look at this http://www.feroca.com/productos_deta...co_producto=91 (sorry is in spanish)

2. Are you using a vacuum chamber for casting? I see that the casting is quite clean, without air bubbles.

I do not use vacuum chamber, but i inject the resin with a fine needle

Ok.. look the mold of the piece

- To fill the mold 1 of resin

- Put the other mold (2) in the mold (1)

Anyhow i will make soon a how to

Bye!!

Re: Aprilia RS Cube '04 1/12 scratchbuild

Thanks Roca for the link/info. Can you give me more details about the properties of the resin (like pot life, viscosity etc.)? Eventually we can take it offline if the others are not interested.

Thanks,
Dan

| Units | | Value |
Mixture 100:5 In weight
Viscosity in the mixture: mP.as 17000
Colour: White
Time of application of the mixture with the catalyst at 23ºC (73,4ºF): minutes 90-120
Time of cured Hours (with the original catalyst) 24
Hardness: (Shore A)
Resistance to the traction: MPa 3,5
Stretching break: % 600
Resistance to crushes kN/m 25
Relative density at 25ºC (77ºF) 1,15
Linear contraction % 0,2-0,4

RESIN

Temperature of work 18-25ºC
Time of work 80 sec approximately at 20ºC (200g mass)
Time to extract the piece 110 sec approximately at 20ºC (200g mass)
Density DIN 53420 gr/l 1.25
Hardness DIN 53504 SHORE D 75
Resistance to the traction DIN 53504 Kg/cm2 350
Elongation DIN 53504 % 9
Resistance to the flexion DIN 53423 Kg/cm2 500
Flexion mm 13
Contraction <3

I hope that it helps

Anyhow in a few weeks i will open again my website with a How-To to make molds with silicone and resin.

Re: Aprilia RS Cube '04 1/12 scratchbuild

Inspiring! I have a lot of ideas that would be solved with resin molding but I don't have the guts... I really like watching you do it though.
MORE PICTURES, MORE PICTURES!!!

Re: Aprilia RS Cube '04 1/12 scratchbuild

Hey

Thank you guys maybe i will put pictures in a few hours in the evening (time in spain ) Anyhow i think i'm in troubles:
The frame... almost I have done a version of the frame it is maybe at 70% but i think it will be very difficult to finish... and i'm thinking to use other materials or techniques to do it, what about other materials? I'm was thinking in styerene... any ideas??

This is the version that i will do but with the No 99 (and if everything is OK maybe i will do the No 67)

I hope to see your opinions about the frame.. materials...

Bye!
