transmission numbers?

hi i purchased my car used, the guy said it had a rebuilt or new transmission i wasn't really paying attention so i said on an purchased , any how now i would like to know what tranny it is. i hear this can be found out from the number but the first step to that would be me being able to find the numbers, where should i look? please dont say on the tranmission i dont know crap i need a landmark or something, point me in the right direction

He probably just rebuilt the LX tranny or threw in a EX tranny for a little more power.
