DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
Hi
Starting with another race car, this time one of the most popular German Touring Cars...the Mercedes 190 Evo II. 1992 #3 Sonax / Boss Mercedes Evo II of Klaus Ludwig (desktopmachine.com) The basic is a Berlin 2000 Fujimi Evo II in a build condition. The chassis is from a ESCI 190E 2.3-16V. The wheels are 18" OZ Racing from Scaleproduction. Studio 27 and Fujimi decals... ....and Studio27 photo etched parts. Fujimi body over ESCI Chassis...looks good so far.... ...and the body with the new wheels. Cutting off the hood and starting to correct the under hood area. |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
Great start to the build!
Myself I have been busy building the same car, also from 1992, but from Zakspeed. Mine will be the Kurt Thiim Diebels Alt machine. I spent many hours doing the interior... two years and counting on this build. I gave up the first plan to make the engine, was going to CAD it and have a 3D printed version added, but failed to get good reference images of the engine outside of the engine bay. For that reason you idea to use the ESCI 2.3l engine is brilliant. Could you please add some more images of the engine (without the air filter fitted)? Either here or PM me. Would love to have some measurements and images to base my engine on . The future holds the 1991 Ellen Lohr Mercedes and the same one you are building currently; the 1992 champion of Klaus Ludwig. Might add an engine to one or both of them. Best Regards, Johan |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
great model Henrik. I like a lot your wips.
Have the same kit, still untouched. I will use wheels and part of the interiors from mercedes tamiya c-klasse dtm. Interesting the idea to keep under parts from esci model of the street car. What do you think about the overall dimensions of this model? I heard some modellers saying is undersized, specially in fnders. Would like to know your opinion. keep on postin“this great work.

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
Hi
The front fenders are too high... Fenders befor... ...and After sanding... The Fujimi Body had a straight line under the Windows, thats not correct. The line raises from the front Window to the decklid. Driver side after the mods... ...and the non corrected passenger side. |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
think anyway the nice work użou are doing Henrick is perfect for the evo2, as u correctly named it.
Probably fujimi kit is ok for evo1 car. I checked my reference for front fenders to see the differences and i found those: evo1, lower front fenders and here evo2 cars, with higher and i suspect also larger ones..

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
I have to correct you here;
The first two images are of the Evo II, the one at the Mercedes museum is the 1992 championship winning car Klaus Ludwig used. The Berlin 2000 and Sonax images at the bottom of your post are the 1993 version, a type of hybrid Class 1 Touring car that Mercedes raced before the C-class was introduced in 1994. An Evo I had a much lower rear wing. Here is an example of a Evo I from 1989: Here is an Evo II from 1991: Finally here is the 1993 Class 1 Mercedes 190: Last edited by Johan_SWE; 04-18-2017 at 02:00 PM. |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
Tack johan.
I spent two hours looking my 190 here and I think there is also something mistaken in A pillar . Looking at driver side windows the proportion of the glass, compared to the door dimensions looks much bigger than fujimi kit. And don't really think is a matter of thickness if the frames...

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
Paolo is right. Fujimi model is not good. Better is to use Esci model and what is necessary to move from Fujimi. As already mentioned, the roof Fujimi Mercedes is not good. Cirka(cca) 2 mm high is missing. Fujimi to equalize the height of the door. These in turn are higher. But you can fix it. It must cut off the threshold of the door and glue it above. You then need to make a new line of doors.
I want build this: Decals alredy I have : |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
exactly Matwej. More I look at pictures now more I think the front a pillar must be increased..starting to saw mine there, and hope this helps also our henrik that is always precise on shapes.
It seems also the line of the roof is not parallel to the bend line on the doors.. as clear here (look carefully side windows and fujimi bodypart)

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
It's not exactly, but I think it's enough. Errors are visible here. Red line model and blue line real car. It is also possible to see that the model is short. Both the front and the back.I bring Esci Mercedes 190E 2,5,16v from the warehouse and try to compare it. |

Re: DTM 1992 #3 Sonax Boss Mercedes 190E 2.5-16 Evo2
yep, lifting the roof as for the olf fujimi m3 is absolutely necessary. the line changes drastically. It is also very precise that 2 mm u said..
nothing dramatic, but now the proportions of the side and the roof looks much more balanced. Then will be the front end that also lokks to me quite shorter...
