Re: Audi R8 Ultra (Studio 27)
Thank you for your interest in this project and for your nice words! The model needs a lot of work but I am enjoying every minute of it!

Here´s the latest progress! Since the cockpit area in the Studio 27 kit is completely plain, and following my references, I add details to the panels with styrene to get a more realistic appearance: To add more detail to the front end of the chassis, I scratchbuild 3 radiators. Later, I will add photoetched mesh and rivets: This is how the chassis looks like at this moment: To achieve more realism, I add rivets to the chassis panels: That´s all the work I´ve done so far. Next time, I will show you the painted chassis and I will begin working on the engine. Thanks for your interest! Last edited by sam01contact; 08-10-2017 at 10:50 PM. |

Re: Audi R8 Ultra (Studio 27)
Long time since my last post, but thank you for your interest!
I painted the chassis with Tamiya semigloss black paint, leaving the engine and cockpit areas grey. With the paint, all the added detail to the chassis look way better and realistic: This is a good time to build and detail the engine. Revell´s Audi R8 Spyder engine is a good choice to replicate the R8 Ultra engine. I will add all the detail I can to this part of the model: I added carbon fiber decals to the air filter. Audi emblems were taken from Hobby Design´s photoetched kit for the Spyder: Before I prepare the engine area, I paint, detail and glue in place the front radiators, always making sure that the body can be installed without any problem: At this time I also detail the main radiator, which can be seen from the hood: Before I glue the engine in place I will add all the detail I can to the engine area. I glue the new engine area floor and detail it with Model Factory Hiro´s aluminum foil to replicate heat shield material: I paint and detail the rear diffuser with carbon fiber decals, rivets and aluminum pieces (I add carbon fiber decals to the rear wheel arches after I install the diffuser): The structures that surround the engine have been detailed with rivets and solder marks: In this moment I add additional details and lateral heat shields: Here´s the engine before I glue it in place. I installed the collectors, and solder exhaust tubes will be added after the engine has been glued: After checking the body can be installed with the engine in place, I glue the engine in place and add more plumbing and wiring: I install the exhaust tubes, tank, window and most of the engine area cage (The window must have a hole in the upper left side, since a cage tube goes from the engine to the cockpit): The engine area is almost finished! With multimedia kits it is VERY important to constantly check the fit of the parts of the model, specially after adding any detail. So, at this time, I put the body in place to make sure everything fits OK without any issue: No problem so far! I like the look of the model so far, specially the engine. it is a big improvement over the original detail in the Studio 27 kit. Before: After: This is how the model looks so far! Next time I will show you the detail I want to add to the cockpit. Thanks for following this project! Last edited by sam01contact; 08-10-2017 at 11:06 PM. |

Sam,
Looks great. The Revell engine with your detailing looks tons better than the lump that was there. Trevor |

Re: Audi R8 Ultra (Studio 27)
Finally I had some time to make progress on the Audi. By the way, I moved all the images of this WIP to a new image hosting service (Thanks a lot Photobucket! )
The rims and wheels included in the Studio27 kit are too small, so I used larger rim rings and wheels from Scale Production. I cutted the Studio27 rims to place them inside the SP rings: I prepared the brake units using aftermarket discs and calipers, and detailed the wheels and rims: Now, on to one of my favorite parts of a build, interior detailing! The seat included in the Studio27 kit needed a lot of sanding to look acceptable, but it looks good after painting and detailing: I decided to install the rear portion of the roll cage to make the body installation easier: I used Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals and the Studio27 instrument decals to detail the interior: I scratchbuilt all the interior electronics and fire extinguisher and added all the necessary wiring: The Studio27 dashboard doesn´t have much detail, but I added some detail from aluminum tubing (air outlet), iridescent film (screen) and carbon fiber decals: The chassis is done! Here's a look of the completed cockpit and engine areas: That's all for the moment. I will begin working on the body and show you the progress. Thanks for watching!
