Exclamation New Bmw 8 Series?!?

alright. so my friend is the richest kid in my city (so of course he has rich neighbors). he says that he saw in his neighbor's driveway, a BMW 845. now at the time i had no idea of what a BMW 845 was. so i googled it. pics came up of the old 8 series. he told me right then, 'it doesnt look like any of those. the one i saw was newer.' the last 8 series made was, from what i can tell, a 7 series based coupe. so if he wasnt lying, what he saw was a current 7 series-sized coupe. if this is for real, and the 8 series is back, I NEED TO KNOW!!!!

Um... no new 8 series out there, maybe he saw the new 645Ci and confused the 6 for an 8 on the badge.

NEW! 845 ci

i live in niagara falls ontario, and due to the opening of the new fallsview casino and resort the amount of exoctic and preformance/luxury cars has increased. however the other evening on the way home from work i saw a blue 845 ci, it looked very new, nothing liek the older models i am sure that it was an 845ci because i pulled up beside it at a red light before turned onto the highway headed for toronto. it was about the size of a seven series, only a 2 door coupe. does anybody know about this car, perhaps its a new 2005?

No, it would still have been the 645Ci. If you look closely, you will see that the 6 curles over at the end, and makes it look like an 8. A friend of mine even thought it said B45Ci.

I doubt if BMW would make a new 8 series, as it would be treading on the toes of the 6, especially if it had the same engine on the go.

It would be nice if they resurrected the 8-series (my all time favorite car is the 1995 850Csi). The 8-series was known to have a wide base, so the car would be wider than the 6, and would be a lil-bit longer too.

but a 845 today is 100% impossible. The reasons:

years of 8-series production: 1989-1999
Trim levels of the 8-series: 840Ci, 850i, 850Ci, and 850CSi.
Plans of reviving the 8-series by BMW: AB-SO-LUTE-LY none

Also, i do remember seeing a 8-series convertible in my next door neighbors drive way. no joke. Was there ever such thing, I do recall seeing more than one.

Also, the 8-series was a 7-series based car, in some ways. It was made to compete against Mercedes's 500SEL and 600SEL coupe, and mercedes S500 Coupe and S600 Coupe or in todays names, the CL-class. THis is actually a hunch, correct me if i am wrong.

BTW this belongs in the 8-Series forums. Duh.

While there have been no direct references to a new 8-series, I recently read a interview with a BMW executive that hinted at the production a some sort of new, ultra-high performance, SLR, CGT, Enzo competitor from the M division within the decade.

I don't really agree with your reasoning for why there won't be an new 8-Series. All of those could have been said about the 6-Series before the new one was released.

I meant the existence of an 845 today is impossible. And still I have not heard of one plan to revive the 8-series. My family is friend's with Jim McDowell, VP of sales & marketing @ BMW North America, plus I live only 5 minutes from both Mercedes and BMW of North America. I asked Jim, and he said there arent any current plans to revive the 8-series, but I did not hear anything about a Enzo/SLR competitor, 'cuz i did not bother to ask. so it may be a possibility.

Why on earth would the same manufacturer build two, 4.5 liter, four seater, gran touring coupes? The 6 is based on a slightly lengthend 5 series platform, and is already a very big car. The 8 series would have to be huge, like as big or bigger then a CL. And to distance it from the 6, they would need to put the 6.0 V12 in it.

As the 6 and 8 have never run along side eachother before, I doubt they will again. It would be interesting to see what Bangal produced for an 860Ci, but I'd rather them put the V12 in the 6 series anyway. Its got a ring to it, "the 660Ci". Sounds mean!

Re: New Bmw 8 Series?!?

I saw this car on the freeway this morning. I too was unaware there was an 800 series that is obviously a brand new model.... a truly beautiful car. I couldn't take my eyes off of it, and I'm a Mercedes lover! I haven't been able to find much information about it, I wonder if it's an import.

Re: New Bmw 8 Series?!?

I thought that I would respond again especially after reading everyone else's quotes about the 800 BMW being impossible. I must dispute these notions. If this series does not exist, why then did I see it just this morning? I was stuck behind this car in bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway and was literally just a few feet away from it for just short of an hour (I could tell you every detail, as I said earlier I couldn't take my eyes off of it. Luckily the driver was enthralled with his phone conversation and didn't notice my stares). I saw the model number very clearly and even wrote it down because I wanted to find out more information about the vehicle, it said "845 CI." Don't give up porsheguy9999, I'm sure your rich kid friend was in fact correct about the 800 series. As I stated earlier this may be an import and may not be avail. in the states as of yet. I remember seeing the Mercedes SLK230 for the first time in Verona, Italy and to my dismay the car was not available in the US until two years later! Nonetheless, I am positive that the BMW845 CI exists and that this model was definately at least an '04/'05 make. A truly beautiful vehicle.

If you saw this car..........

EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Wrong, It is not the new 8-Series. It's the new E63 645Ci. Even in Europe, a new 845Ci is 100% impossible unless it was a fullout custom body.

It's a 4.4 liter. Just thought I'd correct ya .

BTW, they dont have plans for a 660Ci, but they do have plans of reviving the M6 as an SL65/SL55 AMG competitor, and possible a SLR competitor. It will have the same V10 features as the new M5.

Oh and mcginnis, you're not making any sense to what you mean, with all those quotes and stuff.

Thanks. I'm not all that up on BM's.

I do like the 6 series, but I don't think, even in M6 guise, it will match my car. Its more of a CL competitor than an SL.

As for the SLR... no chance.

I would actually consider a V12 six series. I have an S600 at the moment, but don't really need the four doors, just the four seats, and I dont really like the CL. Its out of preportion. Thats where an 8 series would be useful. But it needs a lot of diferentiation bettween it and the 6.

Yea, the M6 will not be a SL class competitor. The SL cars from AMG all cost over $120,000, while the M6 should cost around $90,000-$100,000 (maybe a little more, but still less then the SL). The 6-Series is a 2-door, 4-seater; while the SL is a 2 seater. They are completely different cars. As much as I love BMW, the new V10, and the new 7-Speed SMG transmission, this is not the car to compete with the SL. The M6 will definitly competition for the CL class (2-door, 4-seater, hard top). An M6 with 500bhp would definitly be a faster car then the $95,000 CL500 w/ 302bhp, and should be more direct competition for the CL55 AMG w/ 493bhp and the CL600 with about the same. Most magazines I've read have criticized the 6-Series for being too expensive to compete with the very similar CLK500, and not good enough to compete with the CLK55 AMG, but if BMW prices the M6 correctly, it should be more then enough competition for the CL Class.

As for the SLR, no way in a million years. The SLR is a full blown supercar. 626bhp is more then any BMW engine has ever produced save the McLaren Engine. The SLR is also significantly more expensive. These cars are not in the same league.

Finally, the 5,6, and 7 series with the 4.4L engines aren't called 544i, 644i, and 744i because Volvo once made a car called the 544...
