Re: Amc

Wow, a '64!!!

Not sure about that model, but every other discussion about engine swaps have these things in common:

1) motor mounts will have to be the same, or frame modified.

2) Transmission bolt up points will likely be different, so you'll probably have to swap that out.

3) It's certainly possible to swap in a V8, but resale value may go down and if you're not into fabricating and pretty handy in the garage then it may be more than you're looking to get into.

All that said, I'm a big fan of modifying the engine you have in the vehicle to get more power. What engine do you have in your '64?

The I6 can make some pretty good torque on it's own and with very little work surprise the heck out of people, all while having a nice tone to the exhaust.

But if you're dead set on swaping.... I was thinking about it at one point with my '68 199. I know there a little bit of difference in the few years, but I also believe the fender rails are mighty accomodating on the '64 as well. Again in agreeance with the laundry list of mounts and etc will need to be fabricated up, let's face it, stock style replacement parts are getting hard enough to find, let alone conversion pieces.

Oh, and there is an entire AMC section with a Ramlber sub.

Re: Amc

Offenhausen (sp? no coffee yet ) makes a intake manifold for a 2-4 barrel carb and some minor ignition & exhaust work is about all you need for a big difference in feel.

I'm working on the exhaust end and did the ignition, and my 199 still with a 1 barrel carter on it suits me fine, I have a Chevy 305/TH400 with no use that I was thinking of dumping, but as it sits now, I won't gain much after the work, let alone with the intake still to be done. BUT, the car has been outfitted with a 3spd Richmond and Javilen shaft & rear end too so a little different gearing than your standard Rambler.

Re: Amc

The BEST place for American straight six performance parts is Clifford Performance. They have been around for decades:

Their slogan 6=8 says it all
