#1 cooling fan clicks on late!
I have 1995 chevy lumina my #1 fan turns on only when it is very close to over heating I replaced the thermostat, bleed the system of air, it has new water pump, new coolant temp sensor the engine is also rebuilt and was put in the car about two months ago thats when the problem started the fuses and relays are also all good. The only thing i can think of is if it could possibly be the PCM and how would I know? Also the car when driving on the highway and around town runs at normal temp its when i come to a stop for 3 or 4 minutes the temp climbs almost to overheating then the fan finally clicks on, Just one more thing when I turn the car off for 3 or 4 min and turn it back on it also wants to overheat but then eventually cools down should the fan stay on for a little while, while the cars off? Please help!!!!!

Re: #1 cooling fan clicks on late!
I can't answer the question about the fan kicking on too late, other than it sounds like a computer problem since the computer is what actually controls it.
As for the fan staying on when the car is off, none of the old cars (to my knowledge) did this. The newer cars, such as the Honda Civic, the cooling fan stays on for several minutes after the car is turned off to cool the coolant in the radiator. The sticker on the bottom of the hood that says the cooling fan may kick on at anytime, even when the engine isn't running, I've NEVER seen any cooling fan do that before. What temperature would you say the coolant is before the fan kicks on? It's supposed to engage at 225*F (for fan #1) and 240*F fan #2. |
