EDS Becomes Founding Member of University of Michigan College of Engineering's Pro...

Company to Contribute PLM Industry-Leading Technology and Deployment Expertise
To Consortium's Visionary PLM Research and Education Programs

PLANO, Texas and ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 10 -- EDS
(NYSE: EDS) today announced it has become a founding member of the University
of Michigan College of Engineering's Product Lifecycle Management Development
Consortium (PLM DC). As the premier supplier of PLM software, EDS will become
a provider sponsor and contribute software and extensive experience in the
application of PLM technology to the consortium program.
Announced on June 4, 2003, the University of Michigan College of
Engineering chartered the PLM DC to develop PLM research and education
programs designed to help companies foster innovation and proactively solve
strategic issues that influence the success of a product throughout its
lifecycle. Current user sponsors include Ford Motor Company, General Motors,
Lear Corporation, and Johnson Controls.
"PLM is emerging as a competitive imperative in today's digital economy,"
said Dr. Michael Grieves, co-director of the PLM DC. "Our goal is to help
companies understand this initiative and leverage it for maximum business
value. EDS' experience in helping thousands of clients develop PLM strategy
and deploy PLM technology will be invaluable to our efforts. As the leading
PLM vendor in the automotive sector, their expertise in best practices for
both OEMs and suppliers is well suited to our current focus on automotive
industry issues."

EDS Expertise
EDS delivers proven open and scalable PLM solutions to more than 39,500
clients worldwide. These solutions help to drive customer focused product and
process innovations, increase agility, improve quality and deliver superior
financial returns. All of these results are delivered by increasing a
client's ability to create and apply its extended enterprise's intellectual
capital in a collaborative environment.
Eric Sterling, vice president of Automotive Marketing for EDS PLM
Solutions, noted EDS views partnering with the PLM DC as an opportunity to
assist in establishing a world-class new resource for industry.
"We have collaborated on PLM education and development activities with the
University of Michigan for a number of years," Sterling said. "Through the
university's Center for Professional Development we pioneered the concept of
the PLM Executive Certification Program and developed studies for PLM
applications in the automotive market. The consortium offers us an
opportunity to expand these efforts, explore emerging industry needs and work
closely with companies investigating the untapped potential of PLM. The
university is a global leader in PLM research and EDS is proud to contribute
to this crucial new venture."
