Corvette VS Viper
I have seen some of the feircest debates about cars come up during a conversation about the 'vette and the Viper. What do ypu think? Feel free to go off on a rant about every little thing you love and hate about both cars, thats what makes these threads interesting.
My Opinion: Corvette - The Good
The Good
I choose the Viper. |

Re: Corvette VS Viper
FYI, this forum has been dead lately; so I wouldn’t expect a lot of traffic.
I agree with your assessment on both cars. Can we drag the obvious issue of price into the picture? A good question is: which car is more unreliable? Is this car going to be a daily driver or a show boater? The mileage on the Viper is horrendous. I think we need some parameters. |

Re: Corvette VS Viper
Chevrolet's Corvette, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, was America's only true sports car until the recent hyped-up arrival of Dodge's Viper.
"People are paying over sticker price for the few in the area, but next year they'll probably pay sticker price - or below - because some 3,000 Vipers will be built," said a salesman at South Oak Dodge in Chicago Heights, which had No. 143 this year.... |

Re: Corvette VS Viper
I'll take the new Viper ACR any day over a Vette. Also, the Corvette has just as cheap if not cheaper interior than the Viper. The other downside to the Vette is that they are the "me too" sports car. I see them all the time.

Re: Corvette VS Viper
And I would pick a ZR1 over the ACR any day. Since I wouldn't race it, buying that car would make no sense for me, and a stock s/c v8 making 600+ hp somehow appeals to me. Also, I think that the corvette interior is better then the viper's now, especially with the upgrade you can buy for them.

Re: Corvette VS Viper
I'll admit that the ZR-1 is far better than the interiors they were putting in the C5.

Re: Corvette VS Viper
C5=Cavalier interior...ugh.
I have always like Vipers more than Vettes. There are so many Vettes around here it would make your head spin.

Re: Corvette VS Viper
The Viper beats the Vette any time. If You compare the 2005 SRT-10 Hennessy Viper Venom 1000 Coupe to the 2009 ZR1...
ZR1

Re: Corvette VS Viper
you cant really compare the 2 staight on unless you just take the ZR1 VS the SRT10, mainly because the base model viper costs $88,000 where the top model Viper costs $105,000 lol. yet with the vette you take the base at around $40,000 and the ZR1 at $115,000
and both cars have computer limitations added onto them so the numbers can't be trusted. though theres a video of the 2008 vette ZR1 and Viper and the Viper took the vette easily in the 1/4 mile and in the 3 lap F1 track race. but honestly I'd take either one the Viper gets 22MPG and the Vette base model gets 22 and the ZR1 gets 17 MPG P.S. Dodge sold the Viper to Fiat who plans on making it a competitor with the lamborghini, farrari and such, the Dodge Challenger SRT10 concept and 2011 Dodge Circut look to step in its place. EDIT: Nice move taking a limited production super car and comparing it to a production sports car lol

Re: Corvette VS Viper
300zxMaster1 you are an idiot! How can you compare a '05 SRT-10 Hennessy Venom 1000 Viper to a regular '09 ZR1?? your comparing virtually a race car to a regular sports car.The viper you mentioned is not even freakin street legal. Please get your facts straight before you come on here and try to down the corvettes. Let's look at the facts when we level the playing field. Price: $106,520 Price: $99, 8912010 Corvette ZR1 2010 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR Engine: 6.2L V8 Supercharged Engine: 8.4L V10 Horse Power: 638 Horse Power: 600 Torque: 604 lbs-ft. Torque: 560 lbs-ft. Weight: 3340 Weight: 3420 0-60: 3.3 sec. 0-60: 3.3 sec. 1/4 mile: 11.1 sec. @ 130mph 1/4 mile: 11.0 sec. @ 132mph Top Speed: 205 Top Speed: 202 Sure the ZR1 is a bit more expensive but it has more horsepower more torque and less weight than the Viper. And a smaller engine! How can you have a bigger engine and have less horsepower and less torque AND slower top speed? Sounds like the engineers at Chevy are a little better than the ones at Dodge. The two cars are great im not trying to down either one, but i cant stand when people just look at one fact and say one is better than the other. The cars have the same 0-60 so that comes down to the driver. Also the 1/4 mile is very close as well that most likely will come down to the driver. Both cars are not going to have that great of interior but that's because they are not luxury cars, they are freakin sports cars! who cars what the inside looks like as long as your going fast! |

Re: Corvette VS Viper
The Viper is always faster than Corvette in a straight line... but I believe the Corvette ZR1 will always be faster in the corners.
The first generation Viper was pretty much a drivers car and not something you could have lived with on an everyday basis. The New SRT10 on the other hand is much more different and easier to live with... The Corvette has always been known as the American sports car; always carbon fibre, light, small block engine, rear wheel drive.... For me, I'd choose the Corvette. I know the Viper has made significant progress with the new model in terms of handling, etc... but no one can deny the heritage the Corvette has and what is still in place today... I'd probably be more likely the car to choose an old Stingray over a ZR1.. |
