Bad Gas Mileage
I just leased a new 2007 LTD 4 x 4 nearly 2 months ago. I love the car but the mileage is terrible. I am only getting 19-21 mpg. I tested one tank w/o A/C and making sure I had no quick accelerations. I got 20 mpg on that tank. All Toyota tells me is that we cannot go by the Mileage estimates because the EPA sets those and Toyota has no say in that.
However, I just traded in a Highlander which always got the estimated 18-23 mpg, even after 6 years. I was told by a rep at Toyota that mileage depends on the driver and the location. That doesn't float with me since I'm the only driver of the car and I live in the same location as I did when I owned the Highlander. Plus, I live on LI, NY. There are no hills here and I don't drive in the city. I am asking my fellow Rav 4 owners- What is your MPG and has anyone filed a complaint? I love my car but I would have kept the Highlander. The only reason I traded it in was because he Rav-4 was smaller and was supposed to get much, much better mileage. Thanks for your feedback!!! |

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
well what engine did you get? if you have a V6 with 4WD, you cant expect it to have the gas milage of a Yaris...
and when they advertised the great gas milage, they go by the lowest end model, which is the 2WD 4cyl., which acutally does get great gas milage. my rav is a 98, im the original owner. It got 20 ampg back in the day, and it still does now. |

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
On my 06 2wd 4 banger I'm getting 24/25 back and forth to work and 29/30 on a trip.
Though I haven't seen it yet on our RAV, my daughter bought an 06 Accord over a year ago. Intitially she was getting 26/27mpg (90% highway). She is now getting a consistant 31/32 mpg.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
My 4cyl. 2007 RAV4 gets 23-25 mainly city driving. In the very little highway driving I do, I averaged about 27.5.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
I'm averaging about 33 to 35 mpg... that's, of course, doing every trick in the book to minimize loads on the engine and putting a little more psi in the tires to get more roll. If I get more creative I can get more miles per gallon. There is this group that was featured on the news, not too long ago, that was doing some extreme things in their driving habbits and they were getting 90 and well over 100 miles per gallon. They showed a little of what they did and it takes more effort, physically, to do what they do. It's a hazzard, too. If you're not good with hand to eye coordination, as I am, you could crack up.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
Having a roof rack also impairs it's aero design and hurts the MPGs a bit.
As said before, those 4 X 4 models are not good on fuel mileage. Was your old Highlander a 4 X 4 model also?

Re: Bad Gas Mileage
We just got our 2008 2WD RAV4 a few weeks ago, but we're getting about 28 or 29 MPG on my commute to work, which is mostly highway.
