Mis SHIFT
I was racing my Altima, went from second gear to first....and floored it....all I heard was the wheels skidding and then I slammed the clutch back in and my friend gave me a bad look like that sounded reallly bad....
Now when driving the car....if its in gear 3-4-5 and I am driving like the speed limit and I give it some gas and let off, it makes a squeal, what could be causing this? I never mis shifted before because my 300zx never let me slide it into first gear at 60mph....but for some reason the altima slid in very easily... Thanx ![]() |

First thought: you barbequed the clutch. Nissans have pretty tough drivetrains, but if you're constantly on and off (or halfway on) the clutch and the go pedal at the same time, it's bound to happen. I know many people who put plenty of thought into their engine mods but do nothing to strengthen their transmissions. I am one of them (unless you consider using synthetic gear oil strengthening). I'm not so bad on the clutch now, but I chew synchros up like mad. :smoker2:
Now, if you're screwed your clutch, it's going to be very touchy. A bad clutch will give you tons of wheelspin if it slips until the pedal is all the way out and then suddenly engages. Same effect as dumping it, basically. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine someone liquefying a new clutch with high RPM downshifts. You need to learn rev-matching and double de-clutching. And a new clutch wouldn't hurt.

OK......first off my clutch has 1900 miles on it as of today....and my car drives perfect except for the noise that comes out of it when cruising.
My 300zx and buddies GSR have locks so you cant put it into first gear while the car is rolling Hollyterror: newer cars do not need rev matching or double clutching....yes nissan trannies are tough though. I was driving it and I can stilll put it into first gear......how come it lets me put it in....shouldnt there be some kind of lock? |
