dash lights out & automatic lights not working

Well here I post again with yet another issue on the car I love...
92 toro
analog dash with the single line information center.

Just as the title suggests the dash lights are out and the automatic lights (twilight sentinel) not working. The headlights do work however with turning them on the old fashioned way, the switch. I wouldn't so much mind the auto headlights not working again, but its the dash lights that are missed and I would really like to see them working again.

Here is what I've done so far:

  1. I have checked what I thought to be the correct fuses, and I will double check those again.
  2. Slid the auto sensor switch several times, as someone told me once that maybe it would have a sweet spot.
  3. Pushing the overhead courtesy (map) lamps on (manually) does work.
BTW the radio and HVAC lights/LEDs. work, its just the dash, auto headlights (twilight sentinel) and the overhead courtesy lamps that are not working.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Signed, Inthedark

I wonder, and this is just a guess...could a bad 'photo sensor' (the very small photo sensor on the dash)...be the culprit of all of this? And where in the heck would I get one? and How much? any online resources that are reliable?

Re: dash lights out & automatic lights not working

Replace your headlight switch . It contains circuitry that controls the automatic operation of the DRL's and regular headlight operation . It also controls the dimming of interior lights when the normal headlights are activated . I had the same problem and replacing the switch took care of it .
