Lacrosse Transmission Problems
I own a 2005 Buick Lacrosse. Bought it in 2006. It currently has 59000 miles. Started hearing a whinning noise and thought it was the power steering fluid. Checked all fluids and they were find. Took to Pep Boys and they quickly pointed it out to be a transmission problem and to take it to a transmission specialist. I took it back to the GM dealership (a couple of miles from home) to pinpoint the problem. You'll never guess what I was told...

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
Since it is a 4T65E autotransaxle I'll take a guess. Pressure control solenoid?
And welcome to AF.

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
I was told that the fluid inside is burnt, and the pump is whinning, and that I need an entirely new transmission. Can you believe this. I have a 2005 Lacrosse, bought used in 2006, and here it is in 2008 I need a new transmission. With only 59000miles. Waiting on customer service now to call me to tell how they're going to resolve this situation.

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
Was this the GM dealer? Doesn't sound right to me. What testing did they do to make that assessment? Did they run a scan with a Tech II. Pump whining can be caused by other issues like a DTC setting that will command maximum line pressure and cause the whining sound. Was the ATF and screen filter replaced?

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
I'm not sure of the test that they actually did, but thats what they told me. I asked for a transmission diagnosis and that's what they came up with. And I just received my phone call from customer service telling me that GM will not assist with the $2700 bill to replace it because the bumper to bumper warrany has expired and they were not the ones that maintained my car. I'm here like it doesn't matter. The conditions in the owners manual says that other these certain conditions I should have it flushed and servieced. And none of those conditions I fall under. So even if I did have it maintained there, they would not have touched my transmission. This is crazy.

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
It's obvious that I was sold a car with a defected transmission, is there anything that I could do since I no longer have a bumper to bumper warranty? The dealership is refusing to replace it and only offering a 10% discount if they do.

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
Maybe there is recourse under your state's lemon law, if any and/or Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Not sure if a lemon law covers used vehicles since it varies from state to state. It may not hurt to see an attorney and get legal advice.

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
My '06 LaCrosse has 19,076 miles as of today. My concern with a noise(low grade rumble) that takes place when I back up (reverse), and the noise only lasts a couple seconds at most, and it stops. I don't hear or feel anything after this only noise. My thoughts are, it has something to do with the reverse, or in the brake system. The dealer here in my area are noted for their tearing apart a car and making it worse. The transmission shifts and works fine as is, and the fluid is normal/

Re: Lacrosse Transmission Problems
This thread is too old and unrelated, in the future please start a new one. That said, without being on site to hear this for a proper diagnosis, it is nearly impossible to offer any concrete advice, you really need to let the dealer get involved as they should , I assume it is under warranty?
