This was taken from an article:

SHORTBLOCK-LONGBLOCK is how far it is Assembled. A Shortblock refers to the amount of assembly done to the engine, which means that the engine is remanufactured with out the cylinder head(s), lifters, oil pump, and gaskets. A Longblock is a remanufactured engine, which in includes the remanufactured cylinder head(s) installed on the engine and torque to proper specification. The lifters and pushrods installed and adjusted, a new oil pump and a complete gasket set. It does not include any pans, covers, or manifolds (i.e. Intake, exhaust, timing cover, etc¡K)

uhh...umm......

Longblock - the motor; basically the bottom end and the cylinder head - tranny, ECU, axles, etc. not included when you buy this.

Shortblock - the bottom end; commonly referred to as a block. Contains the reciprocating assembly.

Dunno where u got that man...

so if one were to build a forced induction engine with built internals, would he/she be better off buying just the shortblock and then buying all the performace internals to go with it?

I would say it depends on the price, if its like 100 more get longblock, because most people dont bother to take off the fuel injection and maybe even accessories. It depends where you buy it from.
