Question '88 acura legend won't start sometimes

hi, i have a 1988 acura legend and it runs most of the time but once in a while it won't start after it has been running. it acts like there is a dead battery but it has a brand new one and there is still power to the car. i have tried jumping it, changing gears, rolling it. and nothing seems to work. it just clicks when you turn the key over like it were in gear. after about 1 1/2 hours of sitting it will start just fine. it doesn't happen very often and it doesn't matter how far you drive anywhere from 10 miles to 100 miles. day or night, hot or cold. just random occurances. i have read here from other people that have had similiar problems and that it could possibly need the distributor replaced? and that could fix the problem. any help would be great.

thanks

Exclamation Re: '88 acura legend won't start sometimes

Master Relay is Prob..... go get on from junk for free. unless u want to $99.00+ for it. And if it isnt the prob atleast it was free. more than usall it is this. wont start but everthing works other wise. not the the alarm. bla bla bla, but i bet when it wont start using the starter, u can push start it with another car. other prob is fuel pump but if u turn key on and heae buzing sound from under rear seat, that is your fuel pump working. {{ try relay }} got my legend 150 because of the relay prob

This doesn't sound like a main relay problem or distributor problem. The discription (it just clicks when you turn the key over like it were in gear) means that the starter solenoid isn't doing its job.

If the clicks are from under the dashboard, check the starter relay (if it has a relay) or the console switch. If the clicks are form the starter solenoid then the starter solenoid is worn.

Re: '88 acura legend won't start sometimes

(dont know how old this thread is but this should help others looking)I have this problem too. Sometimes where the starter pinion gear and flywheel gears meet they get worn down and it acts like the relay or solenoid is messed up. To get the car to start put it into 5th gear, put one leg outside to push and put pressure on tranny. While doing this turn the key to start and once it starts quickly push in on clutch. Oh... make sure your not too close to anything in front of the car cause it will jump a little. Hope this helps people out.
