Looking to buy a GTS

Hello everyone - hope you are all well and safe. I'm in the market for a pristine GTS. I already have a project car but I'm looking for something more turnkey that I could get on track this season. I seem to have a knack for just missing out on the good ones but if anyone knows of such a beast I'd appreciate a heads-up.

Thanks much,

Gordon Hunt

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

I'm not sure how pristine of a 20 year old track-only car you're going to find, but...

Places to check:

1. Bring A Trailer, although the prices go up and not down and most of the people making comments are just haters.
2. Wire Wheel in Vero Beach, FL, although the prices are reportedly a tick high.
3. On Facebook, look for a Corvette guy named Brian Bowers in either NC or SC; he fully restored one with his dad, and there are tons of build photos. It's not a GTS, but it has a DOM chassis and is legal for a W2W logbook. I think he needs to paint a couple of body parts, though (some post-restoration tire wall contact).
4. I know of a guy in the Tampa area who is considering selling his GTS, although he's a bit high on his price. Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with him. The car was turning laps at Sebring last season; so, it should still be turnkey.

Thanks Mark - I agree it's a tall order but I appreciate your insight. If the gentleman in Florida is ok with it would you mind pm'ing his number?

Hey Gordon...it looks like I don't have PM privileges here. Shoot me an email at TurboShortBus at aol dot com and I'll send you his contact info.

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

I'm very close to finishing a full restoration on my GTS (chassis #60) and should be ready for a shake down the end of March at Sonoma. My car was said to be "race-ready" with current log, bought it over the internet, several phone calls and had it delivered. In reality, it was very very rough and a mechanical disaster. I knew it needed some work but the more I got into it, the more I found. I ended up taking it down to the bare chassis. I didn't want another project but couldn't help myself! Much is new now and I'm excited to get in it again, sweet car.

Good luck with your search Gordon and hope you end up with a well kept GTS. I'll keep an ear out as well!

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

A GTS just showed up on RacingJunk yesterday:

https://www.racingjunk.com/Road-Club...-SCCA-GT2.html

I don't know the seller or the car; I just get automatic updates whenever anything containing the word "Panoz" gets listed there.

That's a nice original piece. These don't come around very often.

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

I have a well cared for GTS I may be interested in parting with. One of the Marlboro cars #9. I've had and maintained since about 2013. Track days only in the east, Mid-Ohio, Pitt Race, Watkins Glen, Summit Point. Always stored in a heated shop. All service done and ready for the season other than corner weighting and alignment check set up for later this month.

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

I've always liked the appearance of the Marlboro cars and yours looks especially nice. I should have mentioned that the group we race with (SCCA) requires that we run the 351 Windsor engine. Thanks for the thought though.

Re: Looking to buy a GTS

Ok. if anyone out there looking for a full caged factory race car, fully sorted, well maintained. LS6 motor, dynoed @ 393 to rear wheels. Reasonably priced. Just not tracking as many days as I used to do.
