In the Market for a 2019 F150...

So the wife wants to upgrade our travel trailer which I currently tow with a V8 4Runner. In order to tow what she would like in a new TT, I'm looking to purchase a Ford F150 as my first ever truck.

I am partial to Ford for a few reasons, one being that I have a 1990 Mustang LX 5.0L five speed which I've been driving for the last 29 years without a hitch...amazing car!

Anyway, I'm leaning toward the F150 XLT SuperCrew with the 6.5 foot bed, 5.0L engine, and 3.73 axle to give me the highest tow rating with ample interior room. I'm a little skeptical of the 3.5L ecoboost - seems to me that the V6 would work harder to tow the same weight and may not have the longevity of the V8.

For this generation of F150s what are the pitfalls, if any? What features, internal and external, should I look for?

Thanks much!

Re: In the Market for a 2019 F150...

Other than it being a '15, I have that truck. Have a 2018 Avenger TT, 29 footer. With the '19 you'll get a better link to smart phones than what I have, that's about all. I'm planning on keeping it till after 3 or 400,000 miles, that's why the V8. The V6 may rate for good horse power and some testing has it better on hills, but I wouldn't trust it past 100,000 miles. I've seen videos of going to Ford dealerships and asking every mechanic, 99% say go for the 5.0. Because they work for Ford they can't say why. My '98 with the older non-turbo V6 just went 200,000 miles. It could probably go another 100 easy, but I'm going to sell it since I got the '15. The only thing I don't like about this one is after 3 straight hours in the seat, my rear starts to hurt a bit. I'm going to get one of those new pads to see if that helps. Be sure you get the towing package so you have the factory electric brake setup. I could probably have a heavier trailer and still feel like I'm only towing a pop-up. The new dodge diesel (nothing more that one or two years old) are probably a bit better for towing, but I hate the look and have been a Ford guy since birth.

Thanks for the input!
