Re: A/c ????
Clutch rust has nothing to do with performance of the clutch....it is quite normal. Did you notice how many shims came out from behind the clutch? and put them all back to achieve proper air gap? to try to maintain .020" or so of air gap?
First thing to check is refrigerant level when there is an a/c inop or inadequate complaint. my data show 65% of a/c issues are low charge due to a leak somewhere. Recharging will usually make it work for awhile, The only way to know if you are low on refrigerant, is to remove it and weigh it. pressures alone will not tell you. Heck, last car I looked at was double charged because owner had been adding refrigerant....

Re: A/c ????
I actually didn't pull the clutch just cover with the one nut in the center, thats where all the rust was. I think thats the magnet.

Re: A/c ????
If what you did was unscrew a bolt (or nut) and gently wiggle out an armature plate (you may be calling this a cover?). and the base was splined to slip onto the compressor shaft- then you did pull of the clutch driver....

Re: A/c ????
brcidd, I really appreciate you trying to help me, I went ahead and replaced the A/C clutch, the armature plate, pulley and the magnet, the new clutch came with 3 shims, I replaced the armature plate with the original shim, then 2, then 3, then all 4 , but the A/C won't shut off the clutch is always engaged.
Thanks Joe |
