Zx2 engine swap
I have been looking on-line everywhere for some info on swapping out my 2.0 w/ m transmission for something else (V-6), but nothing is comming out? Am I the first with this idea or am I just plain out of my mind? Is the Mercury Cougar V-6 compatible? Any info would be helpful. Thanx

Re: Zx2 engine swap
its way to camped in the engine bay and the weight will throws off the balance of the car.
it sbenn thouhgt of MANY times, but everytime is realized to not bee a good Price vs Power mod, for th price of the swap, and all parts you can build a ZX2 that will make the same HP but more tq. and still have a better front end weight. Which is why VERY few Zx2 swaps happen (one guy did a SVT focus motor just because he could)

not to mention that the V6 in the cougar is a pos. Ive thought of doing a 2.3l swap that cosworth makes, but its not worth it.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
if ANYTHING the 220HP Zetec-R would be the best gain, but its like 6k from what i remeber and you have to see what tranny's you can use.
And its not US emissions legal.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
the zx2 trannys are junk. I already went through one at 80k. Any mods for that? The spider gears /differential just grinded apart. Its nothing like an import transmission.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
How about some quick mods to beef hp? All I've done is installed a K and N air filter. I'm dying to find out what wire to cut to eliminate the speed shut off too.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
there is no wire to cut, AFAIK to diable it, you need a chip.

its EXACTLY like an import tranny, its made by mazda and used in the Mazdaspeed protege. solution...buy an LSD, but if youve killed a 5spd w/ jsut a K&N i suggest you learn to drive. People have over 200k on there tranny.

Re: Re: Re: Zx2 engine swap
I may be quoting hot air but a buddy told me in his automotive school they got a V-6 from a Chevy tracker to work in a Zx2 I guess because its about the smallest V-6 around. You decide weather to believe him or not. I'm not sure myself if theres even a V-6 offered. Maybe suzuki had one in the Vitara. I'll just stick to Fords thanks.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
ZX2 Tranny's are junk? I can't speak for the auto but I've got 252K on my 5 speed with the original clutch and I run it pretty hard. The motor went before the tranny.

Re: Zx2 engine swap
I'm kinda pissed that I have to type all of this over again because I hit one stupid button....but anywayz. I say they're junk because of the cheap ass spider gears. I do know how to drive my car smart ass, anywayz. It was a rainy day and I pulled out of work and decided to turn the wheel and give it as much gas as I felt I wanted to. I threw out 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. They were junk and I barely made it home, never mind to the garage where I had to spend $1100 bucks to have a used with 30K put in to replace it. So, if you think that you zx2ners are invinsible, well, son, I got to tell you, try it on a rainy day and you will be in the same predicimate. The trannys do suck!!! I have a zr2 blazer jacked up, and I can cut that wheel in the snow, ice, rain and still be a crazy mf like I wanna and not have a problem with the tranny. Like a rock baby. So if you still have your stock trans, then you haven't driven hard enough. peace. no disrespect. -dan
