Need help finding 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 test car

I had a Revell kit of the 911 GT1 and recently ran across the SMS decals for the test car. It seems to be different than the Tamiya/1996 model. I think the 1997 might be white door version, but I can't find ANY pics of the car. I can only find pics of a 1/32 FLY slot car.
Does anyone have any pics of the 1997 version of the car? Thanks!

Your best bet is, to get your hands on this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Erfolgstyp-Por...1600779&sr=8-1

It has pictures of the bare CF '97 car at different tests. It changed it's look slightly over time. Most notably the headlights were covered with blacke type in the beginning, because they already were the production 996 ones and would have given the look away before the car was unveiled. The doors were not white on this test car.
Btw....if you want to build it, the UT Models kit is better than the Revell in terms of shape and detail. Can't comment about fthe fit though.

suspect the SMS decal is referred to the tamiya kit based on 993,while the revell is the following car based on the 996,with a totally different bodyshape.

the only pic I found is this slot, taht seems to me fantasy car, cause I've never seen it in any magazine and neither online.

Re: Need help finding 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 test car

No Paolo, that is realistic ( but the shape of that thing is really bad :-)
SMS offers a small set for this car ( '97 ) that has the numbers and other stickers but not the full on CF pattern set like for the Tamiya GT1 ('96).

BTW the real '97 car was not based on the production 996. It was still the 993 structure with CF bodywork like the '96 but with wider front track and completely revised bodywork. Only the front and rear lights were from the production 996.

oh really O_O ?? I never saw such around.
I love testcars but really was sure it was a freak

think all the cars are anyway evolutions of the first based on 993.Also the gt1 evo 98 underbody is nearly the same car as revell.

No again :-)
The '98 is a completely different car ( same engine though ). It was Porsche's first full CF chassis ( the previous were 993 steel reinforced ). Pretty much the only production parts on the '98 GT1 were the covers for front and rear lights.

LOL.. ok Jay
I was referring only to engine/trasmission parts.
The wheelbase is anyway very similar (oh..ok..I made the fitting test of the evo over a revell gt1)

Re: Need help finding 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 test car

Here is the only photo I have of the 97 911 GT1 "test car". It was actually a pre qualifying thing. I too have seen a white doored test car but I can't recall the story behind it.

No problem. This is actually one of my most favorite "schemes" on this car. I'm pretty sure that I have a photo of the white doored car or a model of it. It's not with my 911 GT1 photos though so I may not have saved it.

Re: Need help finding 1997 Porsche 911 GT1 test car

Must have been the 1996 test cars that had a white door. I don't recall the 1997 CF test car had a white door...

Edit:
Searched my LM books and digital picture archive, but I can only find the 1996 Pre-Qualifying car with a white door. The 1997 Pre-Qualifying car was just bare CF with sponsorship.

Is there any way that you could post a photo of the 96 car with the white door? I collect photos of the 911 GT1 and apparently never saved the photos that I saw of it.
